1600 - Wenn die Sterne erlöschen
When The Stars Go Out
Ernst Vlcek

Perry Rhodan refuses to take on any official role after the redistribution of the cellular activator chips. He wants to free up more of his time. Nevertheless, he remains active in the League of Free Terrans, the Galacticum and the Cosmic House. In 1187 he visits Truillau with the ODIN. He and his companions are poorly welcomed. After the Protector's disappearance, the different races are at war. Rhodan reaches the Sphere of Power of Estartu by way of the re-established transmitter link. A visit on Etustar is forbidden him. Then he leaves for Khrat in the Norgan-Tur galaxy where he tries in vain to meet Salaam Siin on Mardakaan. In the Dom Kesdschan he learns from Jen Salik and Lethos-Terakdschan that he will always possess the aura of a Knight of the Abyss and that the prophecy announcing the extinction of the stars after the end of the Knights of the Abyss is always valid. In addition, they tell Rhodan that the answer to the Third Ultimate Question is still valid and remains of great importance.

On 3 October 1189 NGE Reginald Bell and Julian Tifflor leave with the CIMARRON, the PERSEUS and the experimental vessel FORNAX for the galaxies NGC 398, 1399 and 1316 in the Fornax Cluster, which is 70 million light-years from the Milky Way. They want to study them and, at the same time, to localize the cosmo-nucleotide FORNAX-A. The duration of the expedition is set for five years. During a stopover in the dwarf galaxy Rumpelstilz, twenty-two million light-years from the Milky Way, the expedition comes upon a station of the Cosmic House on the planet Ofen, which was founded in 350 NGE by shipwrecked victims. In the station they find the tomb of an Arachnoid, who died because of the atmosphere that was harmful to him. A small vessel of the station has already left for NGC 1400 to make contact with this highly evolved arachnoid race.

When Bell and Tifflor’s expedition comes back after the discovery and examination of the cosmo-nucleotide, they find that the station on Ofen has been ravaged by the Arachnoids. The Galactics take the tomb of the Arachnoid on board and leave for NGC 1400. Once in NGC 1400, they discover that about forty years ago, seventy-three suns of the Arachnoid empire were artificially stimulated to become novae. A conical emitter has been installed to act as beacon. This beacon is taken on board of the Terran ships. This beacon leads them to the seventy-fourth system where an Arachnoid is discovered, hidden in the ruins. He commits suicide upon the approach of the Galactics. After additional research it is determined that the apparently extinct race received its intelligence from the Swarm millions of years ago. They reigned peacefully in their galaxy afterwards for a half million of years. After a flight of four and a half months the CIMARRON, the PERSEUS and the FORNAX reach the Solar System on 31 October 1199. Myles Kantor and Bell begin to study the Arachnoids and their technology in the former fortress of Leticron on Titan.

On 31 December the beginning of a new century is celebrated with great pomp. The next day Rhodan receives a warning from the nexialist Boris Siankow. He affirms that because of unexplained disruptions in the hyperphysical domain, the hyperespace is going to collapse. The prophecy on the extinction of the stars is going to be confirmed. Kantor, Siankow’s superior, doesn't believe it. He sends his nexialist colleague back to Earth.

On 4 January 1200 Bell relives the events in NGC 1400 by simulation. To repulse the humanoid Riins, a pair of Arachnoids converted themselves into the pitiless Sriins - in other words, they took on the behavior and the appearance of their aggressive forebears. They ultimately retired into an asteroid. Shortly afterwards they must have recognize that their people had disappeared. All the suns of their empire had turned into novae and their people had retreated. The male Arachnoïd then killed its companion and not long afterwards he was taken in by the small vessel from the Cosmic House station on Ofen, which he mistakenly took for the tormentors of his race. He arrived on Ofen, killed the members of the station and came back with the vessel into his system of origin. When the Galactics under Bell and Tifflor approached his hiding place he committed suicide in order to protect the reasons for his vengeance.

In the following days, several five-dimensional disruptions take place. On January 9 at 22:17 a fluctuation of the hyperspace takes place while Kantor is leading some hyperphysical experiments with the arachnoid technology on Titan. The hyperspatial constant and the speed of light take on new values. The breakdown of the hyperspace entails numerous disasters in the Solar System. To the surprise of all, Voltago, immobile in the house of Rhodan for the past twenty-six years, emerges on the ODIN. On the morning of January 10, Rhodan leaves with the ODIN in order to carry out some research in the hyperespace. At the same moment all devices functioning on a five-dimensional bases break down in the Solar System.

1601 - 10. Januar 1200
10th January 1200
Kurt Mahr

On 10 January 1200 at 5:33 all devices functioning on a five-dimensional basis break down. This includes all metagrav propulsion systems, hypersensors, syntrons, transmitters and hypercoms. Fortunately, the devices deactivate themselves safely or immediately activate protective measures so that there are few deaths. The speed of light decreases to nine meters per second. The other natural constants, which are in fact the projections of five-dimensional constants, also have changed.

With an antique Gazelle equipped with nuclear propulsion, Reginald Bell and Roi Danton travel from Titan to the Earth. Meanwhile, humanity quickly learns to improvise in order to live with the disaster. Joshu Ionson and Lep Wagner of the Summit Company as well as Boris Siankow and the vagabond Joe Vermouth equip some antigrav gliders with wheels and electric motors. On January 22 Siankow returns to Titan where Myles Kantor experiments without success on linear propulsion systems. Supported by Kantor and his wife Kallia Nedrun, the nexialist works on his hyperspatial equations. He learns that some instabilities occur as a result of the hyperspace trying to come back to its original state. The thesis of Siankow leans on the discovery of a fleet of Springers that reached the Solar System by sub-light flight. A probe disappears in such an instability on January 23. The 31, a hangar where Joe Vermouth is, also disappears

Ionson and Wagner soon hear the voice of Vermouth who speaks from a window where he can see the office of the Summit Company through a strange mist.

On the Earth rumors spread claiming that the origin of the disaster is due to the refusal of the statute of the Knights of the Abyss by Perry Rhodan and Atlan.

1602 - Spurensuche im All
Trace-Search In The Universe
Clark Darlton

At the time of the festivities on 31 December 1199 NGE celebrating the change of the century, Pucky discovers in a projection of the Milky Way in the night sky over Terrania four yellow points which quickly disappear. Since Pucky is the only one who sees the points, he interprets it as the immortal's sign for his quest for the two recipients of the remaining cell activator chips. During the redistribution of immortality in 1174 NGE, the superintelligence IT held back two cell activator chips and gave Pucky an order: find the two future activator bearers within a quarter of a century. He hopes that it is about fellows members of his race who disappeared from the planet History. The mouse-beaver remembers having seen the same picture already in February in an oval construction on the planet Cuelamaz, inhabited by primitive Blues. However, for the most part, over the past 25 years Pucky has been repeatedly unsuccessful in pursuing the clues provided by IT.

On 2 January 1200, Pucky, Alaska Saedelaere, whose melancholy turns into optimism, Selma Laron, a detection specialist, and the young pilot Eduard Morris leave with the Gazelle GECKO for the former Yolschor nebula which was indicated by the projection. On a planet without a name Pucky and his companions are contacted by the immortal disguised in the shape of an animal. Some indigenous simian-like natives indicate to them a yellow sun with only one planet as the possible location of the unknown activator recipients. When they reach this planet, Pucky names the desert world Tramp II because of its resemblance with his native planet. A grouping of shacks is discovered. Some Terran colonists built them sixteen years earlier. Pucky meets the immortal again and interprets a field of carrots as an indication from the Superintelligence on the existence of surviving Ilts. In subterranean chambers beneath the abandoned Terran colony, the four companions finally discover that the colonists fled in August 1199 before a power which was trying to steal their intelligence. Pucky and his team finally leave the planet Tramp II, which the original Terran colonists named Saira, and choose to wait at the edge of the system hoping to get another sign from the superintelligence.

1603 - In der Toten Zone
In The Dead Zone
Peter Griese

On 10 January 1200 NGE the cargo ship QUADRIGA III, in flight toward the Yppena System, is roughly ejected from hyperspace. All devices working on a five-dimensional basis break down. The owner of the QUADRIGA III, Mark Ryttusko, is killed when the ship is forced from hyperspace. His son of sixteen years of age, Spiroangus, activates Xero, an old Siganesian robot of non-syntronic construction. With his wounded mother he leaves the cargo ship in an auxiliary craft. It is equipped with a photon propulsion system permitting it to reach the Yppena System in sublight flight.

At the same time Atlan is under way with the ATLANTIS to the Jimmerin asteroid with Hepnor-Wollana, the son of a Galactic Representative (diplomat). Atlan founded the “Group of Arkonide Researchers for Innovation and Progress” (GARIP) in order to affirm the position of Arkon in the galaxy. With this flight Atlan wants to put an end to the fears of many races of the Milky Way that the GARIP would be a secret organization similar to the USO. Yart Fulgen, the chief of counterespionage for GARIP, is skeptical of Atlan’s plan to let a galactic investigation commission inspect a station of the GARIP. With the onset of the space-time disaster Atlan is forced to break off his flight to Jimmerin and travel to the planet Olymp. The planet is seventy light-years from the Dead Zone, the name given to the sector affected by the hyperspace disruptions. He sets up “Operation Dead Zone”, which is directly run by Yart Fulgen as project leader. The headquarters of the operation is set up in the ATLANTIS and the BASE, which are in orbit around Olymp. At the beginning of February Atlan and Yart Fulgen succeed in putting back into operation the stations of the galactic surveillance system, deactivated at the time of Nathan’s silence. With the help of these stations, Atlan’s team is able to determine that the Dead Zone constitutes an irregular sphere of ten thousand light-years in diameter. They also determine that the Dead Zone is drifting toward the western periphery of the Milky Way at two light-years per day. Thanks to this movement, the Springer Aydin leaves the Dead Zone on board of a lifeboat of the MARKA GOMESCH that had been destroyed with the onset of the hyperspace disruptions. Meanwhile, on February 9, the auxiliary craft of the QUADRIGA III leaves the Dead Zone and reaches the planet Shakar in the Yppena System. Spiroangus and Rhea Ryttuskos are captured by Norman MacBolder, a Springer. Owner of a large mining company, he wants to use the evacuation of the mining world threatened by the Dead Zone to rob his competitor’s mines of howalgonium. However, on February 13, Norman MacBolder, along with the Ryttuskos and the MARTAPPON, a space jet of the BASE sent to rescue them, are trapped on the planet Shakar when the Dead Zone reaches it.

1604 - Der Fluch von Rubin
The Curse Of Ruby
H.G. Francis

During the last twenty-five years Roi Danton fought for the justice in different galaxies of the Local Group. He cultivated an intense exchange of thoughts with Dorina Vaccer. The Pacificationist eventually stopped in order to take care of her people. On Taumond, Roi Danton puts an end to drug trafficking behind which hides the Anti writer Bastar-Stredan. The Anti hates the Terrans because they are responsible for the loss of her people’s power and the disappearance of their parapsychic faculties. She hides in Roi Danton’s ship, the MONTEGO BAY, to take vengeance.

When the Dead Zone appears, the son of Perry Rhodan joins Atlan’s group on Olymp. Four weeks later, the MONTEGO BAY, the BLUE-TENTRA and the Anti cruiser GALACTAPTULS leave for Roi’s System that shortly before left the drifting Dead Zone. Roi Danton wants to help the inhabitants of the planet Ruby which he discovered many years in the past. At that time he brought its civilization to a high level of development specialized in the mining and processing of howalgonium. Bastar-Stredan kills a crew member of the MONTEGO BAY but remains hidden. The Anti scientist Sasta-Punal, captain of the GALACTAPTULS, feels that he has been chosen to bring back his people to its past greatness. He wants to become the High Bàalol. He reaches Ruby first with the GALACTAPTUL and is temporarily trapped in the Dead Zone whose borders move irregularly. The other two ships eventually catch up and land at the main space harbor on Ruby. After the landing Sasta-Punal acts with a manipulator on the stocks of howalgonium on Ruby. However, the planet’s stay in the Dead Zone modified the howalgonium. The howalgonium’s radiance increases the psi strengths of the Antis, which allows Bastar-Stredan to escape from the MONTEGO BAY after another murder and, ultimately, to reach the GALACTAPTUL. The Antis direct the energy of the howalgonium toward the MONTEGO BAY, the BLUE-TENTRA and the QUEEN LIBERTY, another ship which has also arrived on Ruby. The energy beam immobilizes them and charges them with energy until the three ships are nearly at the doorstep of destruction. In order to prevent the disaster Danton penetrates into the GALACTAPTUL. He is immediately captured but he discovers that the manipulated howalgonium damages the decision-making abilities and the activities of the Antis. He asks the Rubians by radio to bring the howalgonium into the GALACTAPTUL. Although much of the ore has been seized by the members of a new anti-technology sect on Ruby, the engineers Ketrion and And transport an important quantity of the oscillating quartz onto the vessel of the Antis. Danton escapes from the GALACTAPTUL before Sasta-Punal orders it to take off in order to protect his crew from the effects of the howalgonium. When he disconnects the energy manipulator, the immense amount of energy that has collected in the three vessels on the planet’s surface flows back into the Anti cruiser which then explodes.

Over time, the howalgonium returns to its normal state.

1605 - Besucher aus dem Irgendwo
Visitor From Somewhere
Peter Terrid

By March 1200 NGE the situation on the Earth has stabilized. On March 2 Reginald Bell and Julian Tifflor leave for Mars with the G-3428, a Gazelle dating from the year 3428 and, thus, equipped with four-dimensional technology which is still functional. Because of the hyperparesis a terra-forming project on Mars is out of control. Some monstrous plants rapidly advance from the terra-forming site and threaten inhabited zones. The genetic engineer Tyler Danning, the person responsible for the original conception of the terra-forming project and its unusual plants, is the only one who is able to save the inhabitants of Mars.

Unfortunately, Danning is in danger of dying with the other people on the space station Neptune Orbiter IX due to the failure of all five-dimensional technology. The water provisions, which are also used to produce the oxygen for the station, have nearly run out. To the surprise of all, an Ennox emerges out of thin air on the station. He searches for Bell in order to learn the end of the joke that he had told him at the time of their meeting on Wanderer many years before. His unusual and abusive way of speaking to others, along with his overall look of neglect, stuns the crew of the Neptune Orbiter who name him Philip. When he learns that Bell might be on Mars, the Ennox Philip appears on that planet thru his unusual means of transportation which is apparently unaffected by the hyperparesis present in the Dead Zone. On Mars, Philip meets the desperate engineers fighting the monster plants of the terra-forming project. Unsuccessful on Mars, Philip finally locates Bell on Titan. He confirms the suspicions of Tifflor that there exist several individuals of his race. He transmits to Bell the urgent demand of the Martian terra-forming engineers to rescue Danning trapped on the Neptune Orbiter station. Philip also tells Bell and Tifflor that at the time of his instantaneous displacements he can transport only dead matter up to about half of his own mass. He asks Bell to tell him the end of the joke but Bell has forgotten it. When an old man tells the joke in its entirety the Ennox promises to aide the Terrans in the present crisis.

A space jet, the SJ-3428, reaches the Neptune Orbiter whose inhabitants were able to survive by withdrawing water from several cadavers on board. In addition, those in command of of the station discover extra tanks of pure oxygen from Mars although the station had been equipped on Earth. It is assumed that Philip dropped them off at the station without anyone seeing him. Tyler Danning is successfully rescued and can return to Mars to take up the fight against the monster plants of the terra-forming project.

1606 - Der Spieler und die Kartanin
The Player And The Kartanin
Robert Feldhoff

In 1179 NGE, Dao-Lin-H'ay, the Galactic Councilwoman for all the races of the Hangay Galaxy, leaves the Humanodrome in the Milky Way, tired of the bureaucracy, in order to put an end to the conflict between two alien races of Hangay - the Vennok and the Mamositu. This conflict has been triggered by the Kartanin Family L’ung. She acts in the name of the High Woman Mei-Mei-H'ai who leads the Kartanin government in the Pinwheel Galaxy. On the eve of her departure Dao-Lin-H’ay sends a message to Ronald Tekener letting him know that she has left for Hangay. The Terran, who has become aware of his deep feelings for the Kartanin, sets out immediately for the Humanodrome. He doesn't find Dao-Lin-H'ay and follows her to Hangay. On Hollerdass, the only planet of the sun Holler, Dao-Lin-H'ay convinces Zhu-Go-L'ung to withdraw from Hangay with her people. Dao-Lin-H’ay gives Zhu-Go-L’ung a position of power by naming her as her representative thereby insuring a place in the Council of the High Women. In effect, Zhu-Go-L’ung has become her vassal in the Kartanin government in the Pinwheel Galaxy.

Tekener arrives on the planet Hollerdass after Dao-Lin-H’ay has secured the peace between the Vennok and the Mamositu. They declare their love for each other and decide to work together in order to bring about the unification of the Hangay and Pinwheel galaxies. Dao-Lin-H'ay acts at home in the Pinwheel Galaxy while the Galactic Gambler (Player) accumulates influence in the Kansahariyya on the planet Vinau which assures the alliance of the twenty-two races of the Hangay Galaxy. Through daring actions, he reunifies and pacifies the Haure. He puts an end to the attacks of the Vennok on the worlds of the Benguels. In the following decade Dao-Lin-H'ay and Tekener put an end to the matriarchal structure of the Kartanins of Pinwheel, as well as the Patriarchy of the Kartanins of Hangay. They unite the scattered groups of Kartanin in both galaxies until they consider themselves all as one unified Kartanin coalition.

After the creation of the Dead Zone in 1200 NGE, the Kartanin and the Terran leave for the Milky Way with the NJALA of Dao-Lin-H'ay and another Kartanin ship, the GUNAU. They reach Olymp on March 20 and meet the Blue-Tentra scientist Cailman Tzyk. He has discovered some movements in the hyperspatial spectrum of the Dead Zone. He sees this as proof that the Dead Zone is manipulated by an unknown power. Without authorization and to the surprise of both Tekener and Dao-Lin-H’ay, the GUNAU penetrates into the Dead Zone and, as a result, the contact is lost with it. At the same moment Theta of Ariga announces the presence of mysterious invaders on board of the ATLANTIS.

1607 - Im Leerraum gestrandet
Stranded In Empty Space
Robert Feldhoff

On 20 March 1200 NGE, Philip returns to the Earth with six other Ennox. They are named by the Terrans (Bell) Hollow Head, Anna, Empress, Nina, Number 5 and Grandpa Ernesto. While promising to offer them a good spectacle, Reginald Bell convinces all seven Ennox to serve as messengers. In addition to a small box they can also take a second object. At the time of their missions the strange visitors also wander in search of entertainment on the Earth.

On January 10, the ODIN is thrown back into the normal space by the appearance of the Dead Zone. Rhodan and his crew are now faced with a three-month flight to Alpha Centauri, the nearest star system to their location. On board the ODIN, the crew tries to replace as many of the syntrons as possible with positronic units. On January 15, the ODIN departs for the space station of the Leauge of Free Terrans located in the Alpha Centauri System utilizing its emergency sub-light propulsion system. Before Philip appears on the ODIN on January 21, Voltago detects his impending arrival. When the clone meets the Ennox his face shows a fast succession of people from different races. Philip brings medicine from the ODIN to the station at Alpha Centauri since Perry Rhodan’s vessel has been constantly receiving its distress calls. When Philip comes back to Earth on March 25 the crystal-recording that Bell had hidden in Philip's clothes by the pickpocket Lychtenbach contains only an ironic commentary from the Ennox. Philip disappears. On March 31, Bell sends Ephrem, one of the ten newly arrived Ennoxes, to the ODIN with a compact positronic computer. This time Voltago doesn’t show any reaction. He only announces that the Ennox are distorted mentally.
