1400 - Götter der Nacht
The Gods of the Night
Kurt Mahr

The Cimarron approaches the Hyperion-Alpha point at the fringes of Hangay, with the rest of the fleet, on March 10th, 448. Benneker Vling appears and explains that even though his assignment is complete now that Estartu has been reborn on Narna, he's been sent on another mission because the structural shocks due to the materialization of Hangay in the Milky Way are causing disturbances that are increasing in amplitude. Sato Ambush and Eirene find out that the cosmonucleotide Dorifer is trying to get rid of the extra mass in order to isolate itself.

On their way to X-Door, the fleet goes through several waves of structural shocks and is displaced 12,000 light years from their planned course. They end up in an unknown star cluster and suddenly, Vling disappears with the words "It's the end, farewell, you will not...".

The crew wakes up prisoners on a planet and realize that they have been psychically neutralized by Hauris. When Rhodan talks to them for the first time, he's surprised to discover their captors, called Khorras, hardly identify themselves to Hauris. They serve fourteen "Gods of the Night" and they want to convert their prisoners to this religion as well.

The Khorras have reverted to a primitive cultural level and they have no knowledge of the Lord Heptamer nor of the Hexameron. A Khorra scientist called Kabaul explains to Rhodan that these fourteen gods are actually fourteen lights in the sky. Inexplicably, these lights appeared 25 generations ago and have been immobile in space ever since. Rhodan doesn't believe the scientist at first but pictures taken by telescopes confirm the story. When Rhodan asks to see these lights himself, Kabaul tells him the lights disappeared from the sky pretty much the same day Rhodan and his companions arrived on the planet.

Rhodan suddenly understands what happened: the structural shocks captured the galactic fleet in a stasis field and held them prisoners for years, thus creating the fourteen Gods of the Night. After a few quick calculations, the Terrans realize that they've been in stasis for 695 years...

The Terrans leave the system and calculate that the Strangeness constant between the two universes has since stabilized to close to zero. The exact date is now March 17th 1143, and the Terrans decide to head for X-Door where Rhodan hopes to find a message from the Base.

When the fleet reaches X-Door, they find no trace of the Base and Rhodan orders for a search of the area. They encounter a Kartanian spaceship that flees in front of them, its captain mistaking the Terrans for Hauris. Following the Kartanian, the Cassiopeia discovers a graveyard of ships containing thousands of wrecks at least 600 years old. On board of one of the ships, they find the dead body of a Gurrad.

They capture Dor-Haran, the captain of the Kartanian ship, who reveals that the Kansahariyya collapsed centuries ago and its peoples turned against each other. The Kartanians are tasked to collect Hauri and human IQ in order to sell it on a world called Sashoy. Dor-Haran says that the received the coordinates of the graveyard on the extreme world Bugaklis.

Robots of Terran construction surround the Terrans and ask them to identify themselves and Nyman realizes that the graveyard is the Base, which has been dismantled into hundreds of thousands of pieces. Their ruler identifies itself as the Hamiller Tube, but it has unfortunately lost all memory of Rhodan's identity. He accepts transfer into the Cimarron.

The Terran fleet heads for Bugaklis, whose name reminds Rhodan of Sandra Bougeaklis, the former commander of the Base.

The Terrans arrive on Bugaklis where they meet with descendants of Hauris and various other peoples of the Milky Way. Asked about the Earth and the Milky Way, the leader of the tribe says that these terms are mentioned in the Log Book and he tells the Terrans to speak to Covar Inguard, the chief of the a tribe called the Children of the Earth.

In the mountains, the Terrans have to defend themselves against the Killer Majesties, vulture-like birds with a wingspan of twenty meters. During an exploration, Iruna of Bass-Thet meets a Naat called Tavoor, who explains that his spaceship was hurled by the shockwave on Bugaklis where he was placed in suspended animation.

When the station realizes that Tavoor is collaborating with Iruna, it attacks the Naat, who is severely wounded. During the attack, Iruna's psionic amplifier is destroyed, reducing her abilities to zero-dream to a range of a few thousand meters.

Covar Inguard tells his story to the Terrans.

Shortly after the texts of laws were tatooed on his skin, Inguard was captured by IQ hunters and sold on Tinkan. Many years later, he escaped and went on board the Mansheel, where its commander, Dor-Haran, recognized that his tatoos are actually space coordinates. Dor-Haran then dispatches a group to the coordinates where they find the graveyard of what used to be the Base.

The Terrans find the Log Book and learn from Sandra Bougeaklis' report that the Hamiller Tube lost its mind during a powerful structural shockwave in 448 NGC, which led to the dismantling of the Base. The crew left toward Hangay and was attacked by a Hauri fleet. The fight forced to crash on the planet and, in order to guarantee that the coordinates of the Base would not be lost, Sandra created a ritual in which they would be tatooed on newborns.

The Log Book doesn't say much about the Milky Way but other documents mention it under the name Sayaaron and describe it as a "damned place where death reigns and from where nobody ever comes back". The Monoceros receives the order to stand guard among the debris of the Base while the TS-Cordoba heads toward the Milky Way to gather information.

1404 - Diebe aus der Zukunft
The Future Thieves
K.H. Scheer

On April 9th 1143, the TS-Cordoba heads for the mid-space station Midway, where only a wreck can be found. The station was apparently destroyed 650 years ago. The Cordoba continues its course toward Outlook where it is attacked by Maahks using improved converter guns and a new type of disc-shaped spaceship.

Tostan makes contact with the Maahks but he fails to convince them that they are not Hauris. Still, Grek-1, the Maahk commander, acknowledges their peaceful intentions and accepts to give them access to the archives of his ship.

The documents talk about a cosmic disaster that occurred when the fourth quarter of Hangay rematerialized in the normal universe. Entire planets were devastated and existing alliances collapsed. Wars broke out everywhere for unknown reasons and the Maahks slowly retired in Andromeda after inflicting severe defats to the Hauris.

After the destruction of Midway, they broke contact with the Milky Way for good and later, made contact with the Gurrads in the Magellanic Clouds, who were not able to give any more details on what was happening in the Milky Way.

The archives mentions the existence of a person called the Conserved Teller, who is being kept on the ship and turns out to be the shape of a Halutian maintained in a stasis field. When activated, the form says "My name is Icho Tolot. I came from the galaxy M-87 and I'm looking for Perry Rhodan". The Terrans manage to negotiate the transfer of Tolot on their ships in exchange for a peaceful withdrawal.

When they deactivate the field, the Terrans only find Tolot's empty spacesuit and an emitter. The Tsunami then heads for the World of a Hundred Suns in order to meet with the rest of the fleet.

On April 15th, 1143, Iruna of Bass-Thete is working on the Base and trying to get more information from the Hamiller Tube, but without any success. The former positronic brain can only repeat that Sayaaron is hell and that everyone who gets sent there never returns.

When the Galactics reach the World of a Hundred Suns on April 16th, they find three Gurrad space stations. The Terrans decide to conceal their identity and introduce themselves as Arkonides coming from an Andromedan colony. Gorrasch, the Gurrad leader, doesn't trust them and has them arrested.

When the TS-Cordoba meets the fleet and demonstrates its firepower, the Gurrads free the prisoners and a small team is sent on the World of Hundred Suns to investigate.

On the planet, they learn that the Central Protoplasm disappeared 50 years ago and that Icho Tolot reached the World of Hundred Suns around that time to find Perry Rhodan. The Posbis accepted to help Tolot in his search and left the planet. Not seeing them come back, the Central Protoplasm asked the Gurrads to bring him back to his home world in Andromeda, which they did after settling on the World of a Hundred Suns.

Using Icho Tolot's spacesuit, Pucky impersonates the Halutian and convinces the Gurrads that the Terrans are who they claim. The Galactics are free to go and head for the Milky Way.

The Tarkan fleet approaches the Milky Way but has to stop short 25,000 light years away from the Earth, where an invisible barrier causes the entire crew to be cast into a deep confusion. During the brief contact with the madness barrier, the scientists establish that time seems to have briefly gone backward. A second barrier seems to exist behind it that causes unmanned probes to explode.

After several unsuccessful attempts to break through, Perry Rhodan is ready to give up when he receives a message coming from the M-30 cluster. The message is sent by someone who calls himself the Hermit from Satrang and warns everybody that a dark power has taken over the Milky Way. The Hermit invites everyone who is willing to fight against these new enemies to join forces with him.

As the fleet arrives on Satrang, a second message reaches them saying that he's been dispossessed of everything and that he only has a few hours left to live. Pucky teleports on the planet, which is surrounded with Hangay trimarans and other spaceships, but none from the Milky Way.

Shortly before Rhodan and Ras Tschubai teleport on the planet as well, an unknown spacehip with a blurry outline leaves the planet at great speed, passes the galactic fleet and effortlessly penetrates through the two barriers protecting the Milky way.

On Satrang, Pucky discovers that the planet is used as a hospital where all the victimes of the Barrier gets sent to be treated. He receives a holographic message from the Hermit, who's aged considerably in the past twenty-four hours. Pucky assumes that the Hermit's cell activator was recently stolen, and that he will be dying soon. The Hermit talls the mouse beaver to look for Ronald Tekener and Roi Danton, and that he needs to hurry because a self descrution mechanism has been initiated. A recording discloses the Hermit's history...

After the Cosmic Catastrophe, strangers occupy the Milky Way and isolate the entire galaxy. More than six hundred years, the Hermit crossed the Barrier with the Ark, an Ara spaceship, and five hundred light years away from it, they settle on Satrang where they start preparing the resistance.

Pucky finally discovers the Hermit a few minutes before he dies of old age, and the mouse beaver is in shock when he finds out the identity of the mysterious man: Geoffrey Abel Waringer. Before dying, the scientist tells Pucky that he created a device to cross the Chronopulse Wall but that he destroyed all his work so that their enemies won't be able to use it. Back in the fleet, Waringer's remnants are sent into space with all the honors.

Rhodan decides to make contact with various friends of the Terrans. While he and the Cimarron will head toward M-3 to talk to the Porleyters, Julian Tifflor and the Perseus sets out fo Point Siragusa, a former Hanse station located in the vicinity of a black hole.

Point Siragusa is surrounded by eight stations created by Illu Siragusa in 435 NGC. The scientist was trying to prove that it was possible to use black holes as a transportation means with the Einstein-Rosen effect. During one of her experiments, Illu came closer to a black hole and she disappeared behind the event horizon.

The Terrans find the stations abandoned and in one of them, Fellmer Lloyd finds the statue of a cyborg with the name Cantaro. A recording reveals that the crew abandoned Point Siragusa in August 488 to take part in a Kartanian operation.

The Terrans detect an asteroid twenty-one light years away and discover that it's the helm of the Narga Sant, which has been drifting for more than 600 years. Inside, they discover Terrans and Kartanians who describe what happened.

After the Catastrophe caused by the transfer of the last quarter of Hangay, many Kartanians became sterile and lost their mind. Only the Hauris seemed immune to the strangeness shock and they became the main threat in Ardustaar. Over time, the Hauris start degenerating and they are eventually overpowered by an alliance of the Kartanians and the Maakars, a Maahk people.

The Kartanians learn that a deadly threat has taken hold in the Milky Way from a race called the Cantaros, cyborgs that suddenly appeared in the local cluster. The new ennemy shows no mercy and annihilates planet after planet. By solidarity with the Terrans, One million Kartanians depart for the Milky Way but they are locked out by the Chronopulse wall. Then they try to use the Siragusa black hole to penetrate inside the galaxy but the result of the attempt is that the Narga Santa is broken in several pieces.

With these information, the Perseus returns to the rendezvous point, called Phoenix-1.

On June 1143, the Cimarron reaches New Moragan-Pordh, the home of the Porleyters in M-3. Not receiving any response, the Terrans land on Zhruut where they only find ruins. A signal leads them to the planet Lydon where they are subjected to a series of hallucinations until a Blue Nakk called Svindar appears. Svindar tells Rhodan that the Porleyters have withdrawn from this system but since Rhodan is a Knight of the Abyss, he is allowed to disclose their new location in M-36.

The Galactics arrive on the second planet of Borea in M-36 and Rhodan meets with Lafsather-Koro-Soth, his old friend from the Porleyer crisis. Lafsater-Koro-Soth is now using a human shape as a body and he explains that the Porleyters do not know what is currently happening in the Milky Way, even though they are aware of the Chronopulse Wall.

Lafsather-Koro-Soth explains that several centuries ago, the Galacticum came to them and asked for weapons against the Hauris, and then later against the Cantaros. They returned several times, asking for increasingly deadlier weapons, but after a while, the Porleyters could no longer contribute any more without infringing upon the mandate the Cosmocrats gave them, so they declined the Galacticum's requests.

Shortly thereafter, a Galactic fleet attacked the five planets of New Moragan-Pordh. The Porleyters repelled the attack and decided to leave the system and have nothing to do with the Galactics ever again. They also destroyed the installations to make sure nobody would try to plunder the planet.

Rhodan asks Lafsather-Koro-Soth who was leading the Galactic delegation, but the Porleyeter refuses to answer any question, hinting that the Terrans should not overstay their welcome and that he was just doing them one last favor because Rhodan is a Knight of the Abyss. But after this contact, he says, Rhodan will never see the Porleyters ever again.

The Cimarron leaves the planet, which disappears from the normal space, and before leaving, Rhodan receives one last message from the Porleyters telling him that he should seek the place where the "Columns of the Past" stand, and once there, he should read the Time Tablets of Amringhar.

Nikki Frickel and her crew introduce themselves as descendants of the Vironauts and learn that after the hyperspace shocks that happened 695 years ago, several Gurrad colonies were attacked by the Cantaros, an unknown race with superior technology.

Nikki meets with Bertralam, a scientist who pretends he can show them images of the Milky Way using a ray called Furqular. With the device, Nikki has a vision of unidentified attackers destroying Terran cities. They learn more about the past and also how the Gurrads, Posbis and Maahks reunited after the Kansarriya collapsed.

They spot a ghost ship inside the enclave, called the Hera Bay, and studied for four weeks by Atlan, who is considering creating a base on one of the planets.

Unknown spaceships are also detected as they go back and forth through the wall. For this reason, they are baptized Walabies by the Terrans. They install a Transform Canon on one of the planet and get it ready to fire at the wall in order to test its resistance. They discover remnants of Ctl robots on the planet, sign that the Kartanians were once there, and understand that the mysterious ships belong to the Kartanians.

The Terrans fire the cannon and soon, the enclave starts shrinking. The analysis of a Ctl robot reveals that the Ctl robots started exploring the Milky Way 650 years ago and became irrational because of the Strangeness Shock. Still, they managed to find ways to penetrate deeper and deeper inside the Wall.

The Bekassus then colonized four solar systems until they made contact with the Gurrads. Every four years, the Eternity Spaceship comes back on the main homeworld to pick up new Chosen Ones.

Meanwhile, Pucky explores Kassuban but soon reaches the conclusion that the space dock seen in Icho Tolot's recording is not on this planet. Icho Tolot remembers what he went through, sixty-nine years ago...

During his exploration of Absantha-Gom, Tolot discovers the wreck Pelewon ship called, which seems to be about thirty years old. Inside, he finds a Pelewon in cryogenic sleep who, when awakened, explains that he was sent as a scout by the Pelewon king Povarithrong. He fell victim to aggressive plants on this planet and used the cryogenic casket to escape. He tells Tolot what happened in M 87 these past 1597 years.

After the destruction of the Dusty Queen system in 2436, peace settled in the giant galaxy and the Pelewons realized that their defective reproductive organs were now restored. They quickly spread through M 87 under the benevolent reign of the royal family Povarithrong. In 2500, the Sotho Pon Tiek appeared and tried to impose the cult of the Eternal Warriors on Estartu's behalf. The peoples of M 87 resisted and the Sotho disappeared on the way to Pompeo Posar.

Fifty years later, the Eternal Warrior Ijarkor concluded a treaty with the Constructors of the Centers, forcing them to give up transdim engines. More Sothos appear in the next centuries but they are all successfully repelled by the people of M 87. Eventually, the Constructors of the Centers break all relationships with the emissaries from Estartu. The Pelewons expand further and start sending scouts in Estartu's twelve galaxies in order to establis spy networks, and Pothaaru is one of these scouts.

Before Pothaaru dies, Tolot promises him that he will report back to Povarithrong on the planet Yanyok in order to let the king know that he accomplished his mission. Pothaaru tells Tolot that the king possesses the Jewel of Mimot, a powerful instrument.

Not knowing where Yangar is located, Tolot asks the Perlians some assistance, who insist that he should contact the Constructors of the Center first. Tolot refuses and follows the coordinates th e Perlians give him, which turn out to be incorrect. Tolot falls into a trap and is attacked by a fleet of Dumfries. Rhodan, Eirene, Bull and Pucky, assumed to be Cantaros clones, are quarantined and quesioned by Galbraith Deighton. The don't reveal that they came from 1143 and pretend they only spend 42 years in stasis. A young woman called Vanity Fair trusts Rhodan and reveals some information about the recent history.

In 448, the transfer of the last quarter of the Hangay galaxy into the Milky Way caused a hypershock that was soon followed by the appearance of fleets of Hauris that wreaked havoc in the galaxy. The Tarkan expedition was officially announced dead and the Galacticum became the War Council in 452.

Having taken notice of the hypershocks, the Cantaros appeared in the Milky Way and threatened to impose peace by force if necessary. At the same time, the attacks on planets from unknown vessels called Lightnings were also ascribed to them. The Lightnings eventually destroyed Halut but this fact was hidden by Deighton, who pretended that the Halutians had withdrawn from public life.

As Deighton is finally convinced that Rhodan is not a clone, he asks the administrator to not appear in public for the moment. Rhodan accepts, anxious not to create a time paradox. Pucky learns that the Cantaros left the galaxy twenty years ago and announced that they would be back to check on the peace progress in the galaxy.

1422 - Die Tage der Cantaro
The Days of the Cantaros
Ernst Vlcek

On the way to a medical planet, they identify three Cantaros spaceships that look a lot like the Bekassu Eternity Ship that Rhodan and his friends saw in their present time. Nathan, the Moon computer, now based on syntronic technology, welcomes Rhodan and gives him an overvier of the safety system in place in the galaxy. He reveals additional facts on the recent history.

The first Cantaros ships appear in the Milky Way shortly after the cosmic catastrophe. They communicate with radio waves and only interact with the Galactics through androides. Although they only have five hundred spaceships in the Milky Way, their technological superiority gives them an edge over the Galactics.

In 453, they have already destroyed 453 Hauri spaceships and all attempts to push the Cantaros out of the galaxy have failed. The Galactics realize that the Cantaros are using the Einstein-Rosen bridges to move around the galaxy and decide to secure the black holes to try and contain them. In 470, they give the Galactics an ultimatum: they have twenty years organize peace in the galaxy. Then they withdraw, and during their absence, the attacks from the Lightnings multiply.

Stalker finds out that the Cantaros react violently to the hyperwaves emitted by the Lightnings, and he wants to use this information to make contact with them directly. In 469, he goes onboard of one of their ship and a peace conference is organized on Olymp.

In 490, Rhodan is meeting with Homer G. Adams when the planet is suddenly attacked by Lightnings. The planet is evacuated as a violent lightning emanating from a spacetime rift hits it, cooling the planet close to the absolute zero. Then another lightning hits, heating it to 10,000 degrees.

As the meeting on Olymp is getting ready, Deighton orders Vanity Fair to drug Rhodan in order to get information out of him, but the young woman, who fell in love with the administrator, refuses to comply and schemes to help her friends.

On April 29th, a delegation of six Cantaros arrives on Olymp and make unacceptable demands. The conference is interrupted when Pucky starts acting strangely because of a psychic wave that impacted him during the Lightning attack. The Terrans run away from Olymp, barely escaping the explosion of one of the Cantaros who turned himself into a bomb. The Haluta dives into the Perseus black hole and reaches the Paura black hole through the Black Star Paths. It emerges on the other side in the normal space in the year 1143.

Deighton pretends that Rhodan and Bull have been killed during their escape in the black hole but Vanity Fair suspects that it's a lie and that the Terrans came back into their past in order to make one of them the father of her child.

1423 - Wer ist Advok ?
Who is Advok?
K.H. Scheer

Atlan receives a message from someone called Avok asking him to meet on a distant planet. Since the message seems to have been sent by someone familiar with old Earth past, Atlan follows the trace of the mysterious person along several planets and eventually meets on the planet Kankra, previously discovered by Nikki Frickel. When Atlan successfully passes a test about his duel with Perry Rhodan during the twentieth century, the individual drops his mask and reveals himself to be Roi Danton.

Danton explains that when the Cosmic Catastrophe hit, himeself, Demeter, Ronald Tekener and Jennifer Thyron were near Dorifer. An energy stream hit them and projected them in the Hercules cluster, 700 million light years away from the Milky Way. Demeter was killed during the explosion and after thirty-five years, they were able to repair their metagrav drive and reach Absantha-Gom, where nobody knew anything about the return of the super intelligence Estartu.

Two years later, they arrived in the vicinity of the Milky Way and tried to cross the Chronopulse wall in vain. They met with Geoffrey Waringer, the Ermit from Satrang, and they created a resistance group on the planet Phoenix in M 30. Shortly before his death, Waringer gave Danton and Tekener a device called the Pulse Transformer, which should allow them to cross the wall.

Danton then receives an urgent call from Phoenix asking him to come back as soon as possible.

There, they learn about a meeting about to take place between the Kartanian Menwo and an important customer, who seems to be a Cantaro. They bring the information back on Phoenix and Danton accepts to take the rebels back into the colony.

Perry Rhodan heads for the rendezvous point with a small fleet and shoots down the Cantaro spaceship as it's approaching the planet. The first attempts to investigate the wreck fail because of the presence of gigantic poisonous insects.

Daarshol, the Cantaro
Peter Griese

Perry Rhodan and his friends are finally able to capture Daarshol a Cantaro, who is the only person aboard the Barsheeba, his cantarian spaceship. They release the kartanian information-trader Men-Wo who unknowingly helped them to catch the Cantaro.

Back on Phoenix, the base-planet of the Free Traders, Daarshol is examined closely. He resembles a human with his eyes just being a bit too far apart from each other. Other than that, he has a lot of internal organs and limbs replaced by mechanical and syntronic components. Also his muscles and skin are made of a polymere that makes him very resistant to all kinds of environments and gives him great physical strength. He has a biological and a syntronic brain and can suppress activity of either one if necessary, allowing him to prevent anyone from reading his thoughts.

One syntronic module within his body is crucial for his ability to control his body at very high speeds and with tremendously short reaction times. Another, called the Coordination Selector, controls his movements.

The latter one is removed to have Daarshol more docile and cooperative. The Cantaro feigns that his ability to move is also affected and surprises the Free Traders whith his full force when he tries to escape. But in the end Icho Tolot is able to overpower him and he is put back into a prison-cell.

Daarshol claims that he must get back into the Milky Way within a short time because he otherwise would have to die.

On recommendation of Nikki Frickel, Reuben Starr offers Dao-Lin-H'ay his HERKULES for an expedition to the wreck of the NARGA SANT at the black hole Point Siragusa. On October 6th 1143 Dao-Lin-H'ay, Ge-Liang-P'uo, Oni-Bas-H'ay and Kam-Pera-H'ay start, heading for the planet Asporc on the outer rimof the Milky Way and buy 8 linear engines to be build into the wreck of the NARGA SANT.

The terranian ship reaches the wreck and after they helped to end a power struggle aboard the NARGA SANT install the engines.

The NARGA SANT reaches the pinwheel-galaxy M 33 within 6 1/2 weeks. Before they can make contact with Kartan, the enormous ship is being boarded however by Karaponids from Hangay, which maintain a base in Ardustaar at Bentu Karapau. The commander Feng-Lu announces that the Karaponidians will conquer the Kartanin. He also looks for the second part of a broken crystal, named Pearl Moto which he suspects to be aboard the NARGA SANT. Dao-Lin-H'ay thinks that that pearl could be identically to the Jewel Of Mimoto, which was mentioned by Icho Tolot.

Dao-Lin-H'ay can release an emergency call and a small fleet of Ardustaar Kartanin under the command of Mai-Ti Sh'ou frees them. One karaponidian ship with the commander on board escapes.

The NARGA SANT finally arrives at Kartan where Dao-Lin learnes that meanwhile only five High Women are left to rule over the Kartanin and that her family lost all its influence in the last centuries.

Together with Ge-Liang P'uo and Mai-Ti Sh'ou Dao-Lin heads for Bentu-Karapau with the modern kartanin ship MARA-DHAO to obtain the pearl Moto.

Sato Ambush, Enza Mansoor and Notkus Kantor succeed in removing the block in the Hamiller Tube that kept it from regaining information about its identity, purpose and past. Hamiller says that the Auriga reached the Base and delivered the message from the Tarkan fleet. Waylon Javier then moved the Base away from point X-DOOR for 500 light years. Late in 448 NGZ, Anson Argyris arrived with the order from Nathan to decentralize the Basis so that no one could capture and use it and Nathan also disabled Hamiller and rendered it incapable of other than taking care of and protect the rubble field the Base had become. The proximity to the newly arrived galaxy Hangay and its different strangeness then caused the blockade and confusion in Hamiller that was just removed.

Hamiller now opens up itself for a team of engineers and is restored to full capabilities. Before the rebuilding of the Basis can be started an important segment that was damaged during the fights with the Karaponidians must be repaired.

1431 - Das Humanidrom
The Humanidrom
H.G. Francis

On July 1st, 800 NGZ, Endehar Roff, the lead engineer on the planet Lokvorths in the Scarfaaru system, receives a mission from the Earth: to build the Humanidrom, a giant space station designed to be a museum of the galactic races. The work is expected to take fifty years and the space station is designed to be several kilometers big.

As the construction progresses over the years, the economy of Lokvorths starts suffering because all the resources are allocated toward the construction of the Humanidrom. The work is also regularly slowed down by the attacks of a terrorist group called Cilada. As the resources become scarce, Roff is forced to travel to nearby systems in order to buy more material for the project. He visits the planet Phendeg, which is paralyzed with excessive red tape, and Arranguusha, where schools have been abolished decades earlier, resulting in a population that is less and less educated and that resorts to slavery to accomplish their tasks.

On Arranguusha, Roff also faces members of a religion called the Gardan Cult, which was created by the Cantaros. He barely escapes, along with his assistants, Pell Yigrizz, a Siganese, and Icaruss Pell, an Ara.

As the construction nears to an end around 850 NGZ, Roff begins to realize that the space station no longer follows the plans that he had designed, and he also learns that his wife and his two assistants have been hijacking materials in order to build a spaceship, which is a crime on Lokvorths. When he confronts them, his wife tells him that they intend to flee the Milky Way and that the Humanidrom project has brought nothing but poverty and misery to Lokvorths. Roff realizes that the only reason for the Humanidrom project was to strengthen the power of Terra, so he joins his wife and his two assistants in trying to escape.

On July 1st 850, Galbraith Deighton arrives on Lokvorths for the official inauguration of the Humanidrom. Deighton now carries the title of Supreme Galactic and he looks like a half cyborg, with many of his limbs replaced by syntronic parts. He tells Roff that the Humanidrom is being confiscated by Terra for some untold purpose and that he's also aware of the spaceshipt being illegally built. Roff's assistant, Holm, and Yilgrizz are then imprisoned.

They steal a spaceship and decide they want to head to Gevonia, in the Targo system, a planet said to be free from the Milky Way leadership. But before that, they need to get in contact with the Cilada, the resistance organization, which knows the coordinates of Gevonia.

Eschraxan expresses a strong desire to head for the Humanidrom instead, which makes Holm increasingly concerned that the cultist will try to take command of the spaceship, so he decides to abandon him on a planet.

Holm decides to head for the Blue homeworld, Verth, where he wants to take revenge upon his former friend, Yilgrizz, who testified against him in the trial. When on the planet, Holm learns that the Milky Way leadership has installed a strict birth control program in order to reduce the Blue population, and that they have also aggressively rewritten history to erase as much of the Terran influence as possible.

When Holm finds Yilgrizz, the Blue tells him that he never testified against his friend and that he was sentenced to prison as well, which Holm believes. Yilgrizz tells him that he knows a member of the Cilada called Eylaraud. The two men, Eylaraud and forty othe refugees who want to find Gevonia as well get on board Holm's spaceship, the Icarus, and rendezvous with a spaceship of the League of Free Terrans.

As soon as they make contact, the entire crew of the Icarus is paralyzed and Holm realizes that he's been trapped. Cilada is a Portuguese word meaning "trap", and it's an organization that was created by Nathan in order to lure members of the resistance to Gevonia where they can be imprisoned. Everyone gets a syntronic implant that turns them into a slave. They finally land on Gevonia which initially appears to be a paradisiac planet, but this turns out to be an illusion. The planet is actually a huge jungle, and when Holm realizes it, his syntronic implants is activated and he loses all his personality.

She tells Atlan about her bodyguard, the Naat Tavoor, and the okrill baby, Chatman, but the Arkonide was already aware of their presence in the hibernation tank.

Covar Inguard is getting increasingly nostalgic of Bugaklis and he flees into the dangerous jungle of Phoenix. Eirene goes after him and as they both fall prey to a living mushroom, they are rescued by Noghim Dragh, an Eshkral from the planet Toklunt, four million light years from Phoenix.

Iruna, Eirene, Covar Inguard and Noghim Dragth depart for Bugaklis, in the Hangay galaxy, on board the Crazy Horse, commanded by the Oxtornian Lion Wing. On March 8th 1144, they reach the mysterious station on Bugaklis where they discover walls made of pseudo-ynkelonium, an alloy only found in Gruelfin, the Cappin galaxy.

They trigger defense mechanisms from the station and they are put into a psionic sleep where they learn about a god called Metem. The voice from an entity called the Parallax ends the dream and Iruna feels the presence of a lifeform representing the perfect balance between organic and non organic life. When she tries to reach for the presence, she encounters a multimensional wall and she must flee with a zerodream.

A humanoid form called Amun-Sitai presents itself to her and explains the history of Bugaklis.

When Cappins from the genetic alliance landed on Bugaklis thousands of years ago, they started experimenting with the local life and they leave behind them lifeforms that could become a danger for the entire galaxy. They are chased by Repairers, a group of Cappins whose mission is to fix such errors. The Repairers install a positronic brain on the planet whose organic and positronic components are unified under the name Parallax. Afu Metem then asks the Hauris to create the flying saurians known as the dragons by manipulating the Parallax. The Hauris fail and create the Killer Majesties.

When Hangay materializes in the Milky Way, the shock wave causes the Parallax to break down and the Naat Tavoor crashes on the planet. Tavoor is saved by the molecular brain but when the entity realizes what the Naat is capable of doing, it puts it into a cryogenic sleep.

Iruna is convinced thhat she can take control of the Parallax, which she attemps to do using both her zerodream and pedotransfering. The Parallax is surprised by the force of the attack but it's able to repel it and puts the Akonin in a coma. Her three friends pick her unconscious body and head back to the Crazy Horse, understanding that they need to stay within a thousand meters from the station.

Aribo is one such clone and when he witnesses the explosion of a clone factory, he realizes that his reaction is atypical of the clones that are supposed to be produced: he is more emotional and more rebellious. Aribo befriends another clone called Plynal, who has the same traits.

Aribo and Plynal were created by the clone master Pheldor. Pheldor has never felt comfortable with the types of clones that he's being asked to produce, and he explains to Aribo that he created him with these different traits intentionally. He also tells the clone that twenty years ago, he joined a resistance movement called Aries, and that ever since then, he has been leading resistance missions, including the one that caused the explosion that Aribo witnessed.

Aribo and the two clones head to Plophos but make a stop on Lokvorth, around which orbits the Humanidrome, which has become a ghetto world where all the failed clone experiments are sent. On Lokvorth, Sheldor meets Clynac, also called Shaargor, a Cantaro whose mission is to hunt down all the clones that don't follow the rules. Shaargor explains to Pheldor that most of the life was exterminated after the Great Catastrophe and that only very resistant clones could survive if such an event were to happen again.

Once on Plophos, Pheldor asks Aribo and Plinal to contact Aries while Shaargor leads a planet wide operation to find criminal clones and deport them.

The two clones make contact with two Aries agents called Iratio and Mory, but they are then discovered by Shaargor. Pheldor and Plinal die during the escape but Aribo manages to escape with the two Aries agents through a transmitter.

Aries has been studying computer viruses created by the Viral Wall for several years, including the Paramag-Alpha virus. One of their scientists, the Arra Ephemer, has determined that the VIral Wall is partially powered by the black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

In the Eugaul system, the Elysian observe the appearance of a space fort called Orion-738. They pretend to get captured by a tractor beam and Aribo becomes the prisoner of the leader of the space fort, a Nakk called Awarin. Iratio and Mory board the station secretly and capture Awarin. They contact the Aries headquarters and the chief of the movement, a mysterious individual known as Romulus, decides to come inspect the fort himself.

On Orion-738, squash of Hyguphotes come out of hiding and capture the crew of the Elysian. Galbraith Deighton arrives on the space fort and tells them that the space fort was a lure to capture Romulus. Only Iratio manages to escape back to the Elysian and he takes Awarin in hostage.

When Romulus arrives near the space fort on board the Liberty Queen, his spaceship is shot down and he agrees to meet with Galbraith Deighton under a truce. Romulus is hiding behind a force field that hides his identity but Deighton tells him that he identified him as Geoffrey Abel Waringer. Romulus is not convinced by Deighton's good will but he says he might get convinced that Deighton hasn't become a puppet of the Cantaros if he will show him his cell activator. Before he can do that, two Cantaros spaceships appear and Romulus has to flee with the Liberty Queen.

The Queen Liberty heads for the Viral Wall and manages to cross it thanks to Ephemer's work. They head for the location location where the two ships from outside the Milky Way were rumored to be and Romulus eventually finds the Cimarron and the Bluejay. When he realizes that Rhodan and Bull are back, Romulus reveals himself as being Homer G. Adams.

The former head of the Hanseatic League tells his friends that the Walls were built shortly after their fall into the Perseus black hole. Adams waited for their return for years but he eventually gave up and decided to create a resistance movement which he called Aries. However, he doesn't believe the Terrans because he claims that Moischu is a dead end.

The three spaceships in orbit are kicked out of the black hole microcosm and fly to a planet called Muurdau-Caup, the second planet of the Muurdau star, where more Aiscrous live. They are all wearing fictive transmitters and they are interested in discovering new technologies. The Aiscrous call themselves the Second Triage People but they say that the real guardians of the Dark Star Paths, the black hole network, are the Vaasurians, also called the First Triage People.

The Terrans determine that the Neyscuur galaxy is NGC 7331, located fifty million light years away from the Milky Way. Asked by the Terrans, the Aiscrous say they have never heard of the Cantaros and on March 31st, the three spaceships leave Muurdau-Caup and head for Urooda, a Vasuurian planet.

1442 - Die grauen Eminenzen
The Gray Eminences
Kurt Mahr

The Perseus, the Cassiopeia and the Barbarossa reach the Vaasurian world Kaalix, the second planet of the Maurooda sun. The neighboring black hole is called Bousholl, and it is a fully functional black star gate. The Galactics are received with respect on Kaalix and they soon receive the visit of three Cutenexians called Pontima Scud, Algebeyn Nugud and Barracn Zcam. They call themselves the administrators of the Black Star Paths but they don't know anything about Illu Siragusa and the Narga Sant.

While Tifflor is struggling diplomatically with the Vaasurians, the Barbarossa, whose crew is mostly made of free traders, leaves orbit and disappears. Tifflor suspects that the disobedience to his orders was led by Ferr-Moon, who has disagreed with the Terrans even since they left Phoenix. Felmer Lloyd learns telepathically that the Vaasurians, who have grown increasingly suspiciousof the Terransafter the disappearance of the Barbarossa, serve a people called the Bnescorres.

Pontima Scud tells Tifflor that a race called the Gimtras can probably answer his questions and he offers the Terran to join him on his ship and make the trip to Mareesh, the main Gimtras world. Tifflor accepts but is asked to not be accompanied with any of his mutants.

Tifflor boards Pontima's ship, the Armanpuara, and they enter Bousholl to emerge in the black hole Cintexx, next to a red giant called Gamquam, in the center of the Neyscuur galaxy. On Mareesh, Tifflor meets Gion Shaub Ayn, who recognizes the names Narga Sant and Illu Siragusa, even though the young lady disappeared in the black hole that now carries her name more than seven hundred years ago. The Gimtra explains that the Galactics need to understand the wisdom of the Anorees, the real creators of the Black Star Path, and which the Vaasurians call the Bnescorres.

During their stay, the Terrans feel that they are being spied on and they manage to capture three mysterious humanoids called Degruum, Gavval and Shyrbaat. They are Anorees and Degruum explains to Tifflor that he thought the Galactics were actually Cantarui and that he's the one who sent Pontima Scud in order to bring them to him. Of course, Tifflor immediately connects the Cantarui with the Cantaros and he asks for details.

Degruum says that the Cantarui came from the Anorees millions of years ago but they diverged from their origin because they were trying to optimize their bodies with mechanical, psionic and genetic means. Since they left so long ago, the Anorees have no way of knowing what the Cantarui look like, which is why they suspected the Galactics.

Degruum tells Tifflor that he will learn more about the Narga Sant, Illu Siragusa and the Cantarui if he joins him on his spaceship, the Yalcandu, on a trip through the Blak Star Paths.

The Escape of the Barbarossa

Ferr-Moon pretends to have received an order from Tifflor and the Barbarossa takes off. The Tefrodian commander, Heyda Minstral, quickly realizes that Ferr-Moon is acting on his own but she complies since their mission remains the same: finding clues about the origin of the Cantaros in the Neyscuur galaxy.

The Barbarossa emerges from a black hole called Peelyron and heads over the Taybron system. Due to the presence of Hauris and Tefrodians among their crew, they are treated honorably by the residents of the system, who see their humanoid appearance as a connection to the Anorees.

They are told that the Anorees are expecting them on Jauccron, the Anoree homeworld, but the Galactics decide to follow a spaceship in the form of a sickle that has emerged from Peelyron and is headed toward the center of the galaxy. The spaceship lands on a planet where the Galactics discover that the Aiscrous, Vaasurians, Cutenexians and Gimtras actually belong to the same race but at different ages.

The sickle ship turns out to be an Anoree ship, makes contact with the Barbarossa and they both head back to Mareesh.

1444 - Legende und Wahrheit
Legends and truths
Kurt Mahr

On the Yalcandu, Degruum leads Tifflor and his companions to the black hole control station Cintexx. When asked technical questions about the station, Degruum gives vague answers. They emerge through the star gate Aguirre in the Gorandaar galaxy, where Degruum shows them a debris field that Tifflor identifies as the remnants of the Narga Sant. A radio station is emitting a story about someone called "Illu", which confirms that Illu Siragusa was here. Tifflor believes that because of its size, most of the Narga Sant was destroyed when it went through the Siragusa black hole but that a small portion of the spaceship made it through before ending here.

Their next stop is on the planet Terminalop where 20,000 Terran looking humanoides welcome Tifflor and let the Terrans know that the name of their planet is actually Terminal Hope. Their civilization level is similar to 20th century earth and Tifflor realizes that they are all descendants of Illu Siragusa. After going through the black hole, she settled on this planet where she had fourteen sons and six daughters. Because of consanguinity issues, their subsequent sons and daughers suffered from genetic deficiencies which slowly caused the community's evolution to slow down and stop. Asked by Tifflor, the Anorees accept to provide medical help to the Terminalopians.

The Anorees tell Tifflor that seven hundred years ago, Illu Siragusa told the Cantaruii how she came from the Milky Way through an unmapped star gate. The Cantaruii reported this information to their homeworld, Jauccron, which started observing the distant galaxy. When the materialization of Hangay caused huge hypershocks in the Milky Way vicinity, the Cantaruii decided to go through the unmapped black hole to investigate.

The next stop of the Yalcandu is Aylay, the original homeworld of the Anorees. With its sun dying, the planet is completely abandoned and the only sign left of the Anoree civilization is a little pyramid with foreign writings on it. Tifflor is struck by the contradiction that the Anorees created the Black Star Paths but were unable to protect their planet against the death of their sun, and he comes to the only possible realization: despite their claims, the Anorees did not create the Black Star Paths.

Tifflor confronts Degruum about this discovery and the Anoree confesses that Tifflor is right. The Anorees don't know exactly who created the Black Star Paths, all they know is their names: Durr-ai-rajmscan, which means the Masters of the Paths, also known as Archontes or Machrabans, and the fact that the Anorees agreed to maintain and administer the Black Star Paths. The Anorees can't read the writings on the pyramid but they know what it means: it's the contract that binds them to the Masters of the Paths. When Gemesch, Aylay's sun, approached the end of its life, the Anorees relocated to Jauccron and using their technological superiority, they enlisted the help of the Aiscrous, Vaasurians, Cutenexians and Gimtras.

Nowadays, the Anorees are focusing on one goal: find where the Machrabans have retired, which they suspect might be inside a massive black hole.

The Yalcandu heads back to the Maurooda system where they find out that the Barbarossa has returned. Tifflor asks the Anorees to help them against the Cantaros but Degruum and his companions are still having a hard time believing that their pacific ancestors could have turned into tyrants. Nevertheless, they accept to head over to the Moischu black hole and to see if they can program the station to take them all back to the Milky Way.

In April 1144, Rhodan and a small team lands on Uulema, the third planet of the red dwarf Shirica in M55. They have received reports that the Cantaros are building a base to control the Easter part of the Milky Way. The Terrans reprogram a Cantaros worker robot which soon gives them more information on what is actually going on: the Cantaros are trying to lure Rhodan by prominently showing Pedras Foch as their prisoner and they also intent to use this planet as a clone factory.

With Pucky's help, Rhodan manages to free Pedras Foch and to simulate an escape with him on a shuttle. The shuttle is detonated by the Terrans while pretending that Rhodan and Foch were on board.

Foch and Pucky decide to remain on Uulema with Homer Adams while Rhodan and the rest of the crew return to the Cimarron, which then departs for Arhena, the Aries central command. From there, Sato Ambush is asked to leave the Milky Way and return to Phoenix, gather a fleet of five spaceships and come back. In order to make this possible, they use the Narvenne, a spaceship that is fitted with both the Chronopulse Transformer and the Virus Breaker, both devices which will allow the ship to cross the two walls.

Dao-Lin-H'ay arrives on Karapon in Hangay on board the Mara-Dhao where she meets with the Kartanian emperor, Thoy-P'ang. During the meeting, the admiral Feng-Lu loses his self control and opens fire on Dao-Lin-H'ay, wounding the young woman. The admiral is demoted by the emperor who then proceeds to question Dao-Lin-H'ay because he's convinced she knows where the second Moto Pearl is.

Dao-Lin-H'ay tells the emperor the story of the Narga Sant and the rumor that one of the pearls might have been on board. The emperor then shows her a recording contained in the first Moto Pearl where the Vario-500 is visiting the Basis and convinces the Hamiller Tube to dismantle the giant spaceship. Dao-Lin-H'ay identifies the recording as a forgey but she says nothing. The emperor then tells her that he heard about the Black Star Paths from the Moto Pearl.

Sar-Teh, one of Feng-Lu's lieutenants, decides to avenge the demotion of his superior by stealing the Moto Pearl from the emperor, but their plan fails and Dao-Lin-H'ay ends up teaming up with two of the thieves to steal the Moto Pearl and to take the emperor hostage. On the Mara Dhoa, DLH's efforts to open the Pearl fail but the emperor eventually shows her how to open it by tweaking the hypercom of the spaceship. DLH then receives a message from Ernst Ellert, who explains that has information that he got from the Time Tables of Amringhar. Ellert explains how the Moto Pearl can be destroyed and he shows DLH a vision of him on the Moon giving the recording to Nathan, with Galbraith Deighton present.

The Moon Brain explains that the Earth and human kind are in great danger and despite Deighton's protests, it sends the Vario 500 to the Base in order to ask the Hamiller Tube to dismantle the giant spaceship. Ellert then leaves the Moon.

Ellert is now trying to find allies for the humans. On Kartan, he convinces the High Ladies to send the Narga Sant, but the Kartanian women make a critical error in staffing the giant asteroid with degenerate Kartanians. The Narga Sant reaches Point Siragusa and attempts to enter the Milky Way through the black hole, but it gets almost completely destroyed during the transfer.

Ellert finally finds the Moto Pearl, which broke in two pieces. He finds shelter in the small part of the Narga Sant that survives the transition through the black hole and leaves the wreck in a small spaceship.

While DLH is busy with the Moto Pearl, Thoy-P'ang commits suicide and the Mara-Dhoa finally reaches Ardustaar. The Karaponide base is completely destroyed and DLH continues to follow Ellert's track, which leads her to find the second part of the Pearl.

On May 5th, 1144, DLH leaves on board the Mara-Dhoa with the Moto Pearl and heads back to meet with her Terran friends.

While Pucky is spying on the Cantaros installation on Uulema, an unknown power drains him of his forces and as Cantaros guards are about to discover him, he's picked up and hidden by the prisoners in the camp. He regains some of his forces and helps a few prisoners escape. Several Terran spaceships then attack the camp and destroy it. While salvaging information, Pucky comes across Veegran, the commander of the base, which he manages to capture and to teleport on the Haluta.

Rhodan questions Veegran but all he can get from the Cantaro is that the Masters of the Paths will crush the Terrans. He also mentions that an individual called Lakardon has made progress with "Anti-Paura" and that the Masters of the Star Paths are happy with him. Homer Adams becomes convinced that Anti-Paura and the Perseus black hole are connected to the Paura black hole.

Shortly thereafter, Veegran detonates a bomb inside his body and almost kills Rhodan. Pucky's health continues to deteriorate and his cell activator seems unable to stop his body from slowly dying.

On the spaceship, Jesco Tomaskon, who had been captured by the Cantaros and then freed, turns out to have been brainwashed and he's been assigned the mission to kill Rhodan. His behavior attracts the attention of Marte Escatt who manages to incapacitate and kill the spy. When he dies, Pucky suddenly regains his forces.

On the way to the Milky Way, Dao-Lin-H'ay and her crew continue the study of the Moto Pearl and manage to extract the coordinates of the Siragusa black hole, along with a system of sixteen equations that describe the conditions inside the black hole.

Dao-Lin-H'ay decides to change their destination and to head for the Siragusa black hole. They enter the event horizon and find the station inside. They make their way to the central command and connect with the central computer, who tells them that the station is called Yttra.

The Kartanians start reverse engineering the computer and they manage to materialize a 3D map representing several galaxies. Dao-Lin-H'ay reprograms the computer to point to the Milky Way. At the same time, the image of a Nakk appears, which starts talking in Cantarish language and then disappears.

Soon thereafter, the four spaceships led by Tifflor materialize near Yttra and they make contact with the Kartanians. The exchange of information uncovered by the two crews lead to a much better understanding of the Cantaros history.

Spaceship debris then materialize in the black hole, which Tifflor and Dao-Lin-H'ay identify as what's left of the Sorong.

After the victory on Uulema, spirits are high on Arhena and the information gathered by Pucky convinces Rhodan to put together a mission headed to the Perseus black hole. On July 3rg, 1144, a fleet of eight spaceships including the Cimarron and the Blue Jay approaches the black hole. Icho Tolot volunteers to enter the event horizon. He captures Lakardon and the rest of the fleet meets with him on the Cantaro space station except for the Queen Liberty, which remains outside the black hole to stand guard.

While Lakardon accepts to cooperate with the Terrans, a selective amnesia prevents him to give away much information about the Paura station and his mission. Sato Ambush finds out that the Paura station was fitted with a time transmitter bewteen 465 and 480.

As the Terrans start exploring the space station, they are subject to illusions showing them scenes from the past, where genetic experiments are taking place. Sato discovers the existence of a "frozen reality". He suddenly realizes that the Lakardon he has been working with is a projection from the real Lakardon, who is hiding in this frozen reality. Ambush tries to warn the Terrans but he's incapacitated by Lakardon. The Terran fleet heads out of the black hole but falls into a trap: outside the event horizon, thirty Cantaro ships are waiting them. They immediately open fire. The Bluejay and the Crazy Horse are instantly destroyed, the Sorong dives into the black hole and the Cimarron manages to escape.

Rhodan realizes that all the recent events were a very sophisticated trap laid out by the Cantaros, including their pseudo victory on Uulema which led them to the information about the Perseus black hole.

Badly damaged, The Cimarron manages to limp to a nearby system called Megaira.

The Cimarron lands on Sisyphos, the first planet of the Megaira system. Sedge Midmays, the head doctor, submits Pedras Foch to experiments attempting to revive his memory of the time when he was a prisoner of the Cantaros. He discovers a scene where Foch is being questioned by an unidentified Cantaro who shows him a picture of Gesil, Rhodan's wife, who disappeared 700 years ago.

During a routine check on the syntronic computer, Bull realizes that the Megaira system is no longer present in the databanks and he finds evidence that the data was tampered with. Two Gazelles are dispatched on the planet for exploration purposes and one of them is shot at. Rhodan and Eirene investigate where the shot came from and they find a subterranean base that seems to have been there for more than fifteen million years. Suddenly, a 3D projection of Gesil appears to them and Rhodan and his daughter are stunned to see Rhodan's wife being in pain and asking for help.

Further investigations reveal that the base has been built to look old but that it's actually quite recent. The Terrans reach the conclusion that somebody is trying to upset Rhodan mentally.

Shortly thereafter, the Karmina arrives on Sisyphos, to Rhodan's relief, who thought he had lost both Atlan and Roi Danton. Rhodan sends the Cimarron 1 and 2 back to the Perseus black hole in the hope of finding more survivors, but while the Cimarron 1 comes back empty handed, the Cimarron 2 lands on Sisyphos without having responded to any of the radio communications.

Rhodan carefully explores the empty shuttle and he hears a voice telling him that he's facing a very powerful enemy and that he needs to accept the gift in the headquarters if he wants to learn more. With extra precautions, the team reaches the headquarters where they find a small box that contains a skin sample.

Back on the base, an analysis of the skin sample reveals that it is of human origin and that half of its DNA comes from Gesil.

1454 - Psychoterror
Psycho terror

On Sisyphos, Rhodan is the victim of a psychic attak that throws him into a dream. He is freed from it by Acaranda Berzy, a psychotherapist working on Sedge Midmays' team. Atlan and Rhodan spend some time studying once more the cube that Gesil left on Sabhal after she left, but they don't learn anything new. Rhodan decides to head over to Arhena to inform Aries of the latest events.

During the flight, Rhodan is again the target of increasingly more powerful psycho attacks and Midmays decide to have him watched by both Acaranda Berzy and a robot. He also tells Rhodan to keep his SERUN suit on at all times. These measures seem to make the attacks stop.

On the spaceship, Sato Ambush has resumed his study of the Sabhal cube, which he analyzes using pararealistic methods, something that he's the only one capable of doing. He soon finds out that the dialogue between Gesil and the mysterious shapeless form have been altered, but that the mysterious entity still seems to be a messenger from the Cosmocrats.

The Karmina reaches Arhena where Rhodan reunites with Homer G. Adams and Icho Tolot. The Halutian tells him that he tried to go to Haluta, his homeworld, but that his attempt failed because the planet is under close surveillance by Cantaros spaceships and watch space stations. Tolot wants to return there in order to find out what happened to his compatriots and Atlan offers to accompany him, in an effort to find a distraction from the pain caused by Iruna's death.

Rhodan urges Adams to order the evacuation of Arhena but the Aries leader is skeptical that such a measure is necessary. Midmays resumes his investigation on Pedras Foch's memory and he finds out about a planet called Shuungar, in the Cepheides sector, which appears to be a world where the Cantaros are breeding armies of clones. Thanks to such breeding worlds, the Cantaros, who were only fifty thousand when they arrived in the Milky Way, are now estimated to be in excess of twenty million, with a fleet of 20,000 spaceships.

Rhodan makes the mistake of turning off the protection screen of his SERUN and he's again the victim of a psycho attack. Shortly thereafter, a message from Sisyphos arrives on Arhena revealing that that Acarand Berzy was found dead back there. The Terrans confront the fake Berzy who turns out to be an android. She self destructs but the Terrans had anticipated such an action and manage to teleport her to a safe place before she can cause any damage.

On August 29th, the Narvenne departs for Shuungar and the Aries begin the evacuation of Arhena, finally convinced of an imminent Cantaro attack. Their new location is called Helios, the fourth planet of the sun Seriphos, 4.8 light years away from the Perseus black hole. Tolot and Atlan depart for Haluta and Rhodan leaves with the Karmina.

On September 9th, 1145, the three Anorees depart in order to install the Peace Spokesperson, a network of hyper emitters that will broadcast through the Milky Way a message reminding the Cantaros where they came from and what their values are. The Spokesperson is able to broadcast its message across a sphere of 8,000 light years.

Further investigations on the Moto Pearl reveal that the final destination is Amagorta, which is said to represent "Calm, Peace and Introspection".

Rhodan learns that the Cantaros started destroying methodically all the Spokesperson emitters they could find, and he then heads out to the Fox Trot point to meet with Homer G. Adams.

Birth of a Cantaro
Ernst Vlcek

Eight of the nine incubators on Sampson are used to produce common clones while the ninth one is used to produce generals. Shoudar and Yttara, two Cantaros, are supervising the clone production and report to the Nakk Ayshupon. Yttalar learns from the Nakk about the Cynaui, a life limiter that's installed in all the Cantaros coming out of the incubators. During a discussion with Shoudar, Yttara says that he think that the Supreme Command of the Cantaros is probably made of a group of Cantaros. He doesn't reveal that he's been having increasing doubts about their mission, especially since the recent annoucements from the Peace Speakers.

The two Cantaros are assigned the mission to destroy one of these Peace Speakers. Yttara uses this opportunity to leave a recording destined to the resistance, but he doesn't realize that Shoudar is on to his treason.

Rhodan and his team are hiding on Sampson, waiting for the Queen Liberty to pick them up when Pucky detects Yttalar's thoughts. He takes this opportunity to kidnap the Cantaro and put him in the presence of the three Anorees. Yttalar is violently shocked to meet his ancestors but when he's returned to his apartment, he's confronted by Shoudar and Ayshupon. The Nakk sends a report to the Supreme Command and a death impulse is emitted from the Cantaro leaders, which kills all the generals, including Yttalar. Shoudar survives but he has now developed hatred toward the Cantaro leadership, and he joins Rhodan and his companions.

The Queen Liberty arrives and picks the Terrans up. On the spaceship, Shoudar tells Rhodan that the Masters of the Streets (the other name for the Supreme Command) are planning an attack on Phenix, the resistance home planet.

1464 - Das Phantom von Phönix
The Ghost from Phenix
Kurt Mahr

During the fight on Sampson, Harold Nyman managed to grab a fragment of Cantaro skin, which Rhodan decides to preserve in an airtight container. The Odin, Cimarron and Karmina depart for Phenix while Sato Ambush, helped by the Anorees, discovers one of the emitters that the masters of the Milky Way use to control the Cantaros. Instead, they find a module of unknown purpose.

On Phenix, a ghostly non humanoid figure is spotted by several people on the base. Rhodan's spaceships land on Phenix and warn everyone of the impending Cantaro attack, while the spotting of the ghostly figure keep adding up to fourteen. The locations of the appearances don't seem to show any purpose, so Rhodan is wondering if they are not dealing with a hyperphysical being having difficulties finding its way in the four dimensional continuum.

Fifty Cantaro spaceships appear and start attacking the base, at the same moment that the ghost steals Jennifer Thyron's cell activator. Irminia Kotschistowa has to use her psychic skills to keep Ronald Tekener's wife alive. Thanks to Rhodan's warning, the Phenix team manages to destroy most of the Cantaro spaceships. Only a few manage to escape and seventeen survivors are captured. The Free Traders depart from Phenix and thanks to the fact that they are now all fitted with Pulse Disruptors, make their way toward the Milky Way.

Odin is the last to leave Phenix on February 5th, 1146, when the Libra announces that the Base has disappeared.

Checkmate to the Clone
K.H. Scheer

Iliam Tamsun, the commander of the Libra, describes what happened on the Base.

On January 20th, 1146, Harold Nyman arrives at the Basis with the cruiser Andrassy. He claims that three hundred Cantaro spaceships destroyed the Tarkan fleet and destroyed Phenix. Danton and Tekener are dead and Perry Rhodan is gravely wounded and expecting help on Phenix. The Terrans are skeptical but Nyman then sends the pass code "Night of Walpurgis" to the Hamiller Tube, who immediately reliniquishes control of the Base to him.

Tamsun sends a team of four on board the Base. Nyman orders the giant spaceship to head for the Milky Way and manages to paralyze and eject in space the commando. The Libra then departs for Phenix.

Rhodan is convinced that the so-called Nyman is a clone that was created by the Cantaros from the fragment of flesh they preserved during the attack on the planet. The spacesuits of the four person command reveals a hidden message from the Hammiller Tube saying that he identified Nyman as a traitor but that he played along to find out what he's up to and also to bring the Base inside the Milky Way. Rhodan sets out for the Milky Way and he crosses the Chronopulse Wall on February 18th with the Libra in tow. He picks up 400 people to staff the Base.

The Terrans easily regain control of the Base and the Hamiller Tube welcomes the real Nyman as the commander, however, Tekener is still convinced that the entire operation is a trap from Monos. His suspicion is soon confirmed: a signal triggers a reaction in the spacesuits of the four team command and symbiotes start multiplying and start spreading across the Base, interfering with the Metagrav engine and threatening to blow up the entire spaceship. However, Tekener was prepared and manages to neutralize the Symbiotes. When Tekener kills the Nyman closes, the emissions stop and the normal flight resumes.

After crossing the Andromeda galaxy for a year without success, Icho Tolot, Domo Sokrat and Pantalon encounter a fleet of five torpedoes that have been in flight for over 600 years. They follow them to a space station that Tolot calls Skull City because of its shape. The central positronic contacts Tolot and tells him the station is called Drohknosch and it was built by people from another galaxy. When he shares his radio logs with Tolot, the Halutian's attention is drawn to Zequu, the second planet of the star Aruk.

Zequu is located in Andro Beta and Tolot discovers a monolith that shares information with him through a merchant called Hachem Minarbo. Tolot finally learns the location where his people went into exile and Minarbo reveals himself as STalker, wearing Achab's mask. The former Sotho then retires.

Tolot and his companions head for the three planet system indicated to him by Sotho where they are welcome by a Halutian.

1467 - Historie der Verschollenen
History of the Lost Ones
H.G. Francis

The planet is called Halpat and Tolot is invited to learn about the recent history of the Halutians in a museum.

In early 485, the Halutians realize that they are about to be attacked by the Fulgurs and they contain their world behind an energetic field. Five Fulgur spaceships attack Halut. The shield sustains the attack but natural disasters devastate the planet. The Halutians also notice that the radio communications are not happening in Cantaro language. Knowing they won't be able to sustain another wave of attacks, the Halutians flee their home world and spread out across the galaxy and beyond. One year later, a second Fulgur attack devastates Haluta.

In 494, the Halutian scientists detect the existence of a superhigh frequency network blanketing the Milky Way, which seems to be used to control the Cantaros. The Halutians manage to leave the Milky Way shortly before the Chronopulse Wall goes up, isolating the entire galaxy from the rest of the universe. They meet in the empty space between the galaxis in 495 while the wars between Hauris, Maahks, Kartanians, Vennoks and Tefrodians continue. Until 549, more Halutian groups spread over hundreds of planets. Talspat Far discovers an ideal world for his people in the galaxy IC 1613, which he calls Hatokoor ("nostalgia from Halut") and the Halutians settle there. They send regular reconnaissance flights toward the Milky Way while avoiding all contacts. In 645, Thanak Thamar announce that the Posbis have left the World of a Hundred Suns and that the Gurrads have taken their place. Another Halutian learns in 659 that the Gurrands have brought the Central Protoplasm on a world in Andromeda, on its request.

In 750, more than 40,000 Halutians set out on individual travels, mostly in the galaxy Maffei. The Halutian scientists continue their study of the control network of the Cantaros and they learn that the Central Protoplasm could be a source of super high frequency. The Halutians locate the Protoplasm on the world Rijaal, a planet from teh Habuur system. A fleet of Halutians heads there but arrives too late: the Protoplasm has left. They eventually locate it on Dongan, the second planet of the Halpora system. The Halutias settle on the neighboring planet, Halpat.

The Protoplasm suspects the Halutians to want to run experiments on it and refuses all contacts but eventually changes its mind when it is reminded of its pact he made with the Human Kind. The Protoplasm accepts to work with the Halutians on an emitter destined to neutralize the Cantaro control network.

Pantalon tells Tolot that he's been attacked by invisible beings, who are eventually captured and who turn out to be Nakk-Blues. Dharab, Tolot, Sokrat and Pantalon head for Dongan, and as they approach the island where the Protoplasm lives, the alarm sounds.

Ambush establishes that the Cantaro Control Network is also responsible for sending regular "Life Pulses" that the Cantaros need to receive in order to stay alive, which explains why they can't go too far away from the Milky Way.

When Shoudar hears the Anorees discuss the concept of Amagorta, a vague memory comes back to him and he gives Perry Rhodan the name of the planet Angermaddon. Rhodan decides to send a team over there.

Zathrom, the commander of the Cantaro base on Angermaddon, is concerned that a few of the people who report to him are being influenced by the Spokespersons, so he asked Garnoda to examine them. The project is led by the Nakk Ayshupon.

The Terran team carries out their plan: the Cantaro Shoudar passes as a general called Xattur and Roi Danton is placed in a hibernation tank to make it look as if he was captured. Garnoda immediately recognizes Danton and after an initial misunderstanding, Garnoda and Shoudar recognize that they are both working against the Cantaros.

Pretending he suffers from Amesia, Danton is allowed to walk around freely and he realizes that the Cantaro clones being produced on Angermaddon are conflicted with severe psychological problems. They need to receive a regular treatment that puts them in an euphoria state in order to carry out their work. When Shoudar sees that Ayshupon is on Angermaddon, he rushes theirmission and the Terran team manages to grab the coordinates of Amagorta.

Pucky teleports Ayshupon, Shoudar, Danton and Ayshupon back in the spaceship, which breaks out of the Chachit. During the fight, Ayshupon explains that he had no intentions of betraying the Terrans and he accepts to help them in their fight against the Cantaros.

1471 - Museum der Archäonten
The Museum of the Archonts
Robert Feldhoff

Amagorta turns out to be a black hole in the middle of the galaxy. The shuttle Tucana enters the black hole in May 1146 and discovers a giant space station and two planets orbiting around the singularity. A foreign spaceship is docked against the station. The first planet, called Machar 1, was razed after an attack from the Streakers in 465. On Machra II, Rhodan and his companions only find one city which appears to have been meticulously evacuated. Pucky detects the presence of another Nakk and Ayshupon warns the Terrans about an imminent danger.

Inside a big pyramid, Rhodan finds a console and activates a show called "The Four Days of the Past", where he learns the story of the Archonts.

Millions of years ago, the Eskuquels, a race traveling in cities built on asteroids, reach the system where Vipertians live, who are humanoids as well, and who are peacefully ruling over the Maudaan galaxy. 90% of the twelve million Vipertians accept the invitation from the Eskuquels and settle on the asteroids. The two peoples realize they come from a common ancestor and decide to unite themselves into one race, called the Amarenas.

Over a period of twenty thousand years, the flying cities of the Amarenas travel across the universe using the Dark Star Paths, developed by the Eskuquels. They eventually suffer from an existential crisis marking the end of the "Age of Space". Four members of the Amarenas who happen to be immortal called Valinet, Ginnimar, Sailor and Donovan tell their people to build a giant city of peace.

Over the next hundred thousand years, the Amarenas expand the network of the Dark Star Paths and offer licenses to use them to the various peoples they encounter. The network now spans one hundred million light years, thereby overloading the control stations and growing anger lead several peoples to engage in a war against the Amarenas, starting the "Age of Violence".

The Amarena cities are attacked by symbiotes. 5000 Amarenas are killed but Valinet and Ginnimar escape. They create a toxic gas and manage to kill their attackers. The Amarenas regroup and decide to revoke the licenses to use the Dark Star Paths. The black holes hosting them are turned into deadly zones.

In the millennia that follow, the Amarenas live a technological golden age and eventually discover the damaged hexadim spaceship of the Hathors Skhengris-Tin and Soleo-Nathos. Shocked to discover a race that is as advanced as they are, they realize that technology will lead them to extinction. However, they don't want to become a superintelligence either, so in the next 200,000 years, they start heading into the Age of Spirit. They find the location of Amagorta and retire there, carefully erasing its location from all the databanks so they can live their retirement without any interference from other races.

The Amarenas assign the maintenance of the Dark Star Paths to the Anorees, who call them Durr-ar-rajmscan, or Machraban. During the fifty years it takes the Anorees to get used to their new mission, Valinet, Ginnimar, Sailor and Donovan decide to end their life. Finnimar gives birth to a girl from Valinet, who writes the chronicle of their people and calls it "The Four Days of the Past". Before they head into the black hole, Ginnimar calls her daughter Iridora. The four immortals intent to tell Iridora about their knowledge and experience before committing suicide, but they fail.

When Rhodan resumes the study of the pyramid, he is captured by the Nakk Ermancluq, who was ordered by his masters to kill him.

1472 - Loge der Unsterblichen
The Lair of the Immortals
Ernst Vlcek

Instead of killing Rhodan right away, like Monos ordered him, Ermancluq shows the Terran more recordings of the history of the Archonts. Rhodan identifies himself with Iridora and starts reliving the last two million years of the Amarenas.

The Amarenas call the two planets located under the event horizon "World", where they build an archive in the form of a pyramid, and "Place" where they actually reside and meditate.

Two million years after their retirement, the Amarenas feel the shockwave caused by Dorifer and Iridora sends a scout in the normal universe to investigate. Several Amarenas volunteer, called Eleiher, Phaera, Virosor and Sysa. They have all started showing some interest for the spaceships that allowed their people to reach Amagorta in the first place, which is surprising since the Amarena people is now in a post physical status and is not supposed to be interested in material things. They fly out of the black hole and discover a galaxy at war. Overwhelmed with anger, they destroy several inhabited planets with their superior weapons in order to force the Galactics to stop fighting.

In Amagorta, Boleam, one of the four Archivists, is concerned by the behavior of the scouts and he advises Iridora to fly out of the black hole and see things for herself. On November 23rd, 465, she flies into the galaxy and she comes across the destroyed planet Aspiarc. She understands that the Galactics thinks that the Cantaros are responsible for the destructions, but she knows that they don't have the technology to annihilate entire planets. When she comes across a Streaker spaceship, she notices the ship looks a lot like her own and she realizes with horror that the Streakers are no one else than members of her own people.

She returns inside the black hole in order to confront the traitors. During her speech, Sysa destroys the planet Place in a fit of madness, killing more than one million Amarenas, half of the total population. The traitor Amarenas are identified as carrier of a sickness and they are isolated from the rest of the population.

In 470, Orantor, one of the 158 diseased Amarenas, escapes confinement and flies into the galaxy. When he comes back, undetected, he has been followed by Darwyn, a Cantaro. Darwyn explains that the Cantaros have been trying to find out the explanation for the Cosmic Catastrophe and they discovered that an entire section of the Dark Star Paths existed but was not accounted for on the maps. Confronted by the Galactics about the destruction of their planets, the Cantaros decided not to dispel the idea that they were responsible. In order to help the Amarenas, the Cantaros develop hormones that help alleviate the madness symptoms of the sick Amarenas but their efforts don't stop the spreading of the disease.

More insane Amarenas escape the black hole and launch an attack against Halut, which fails because of the planet's force field.

In 488, 40,000 Amarenas are now sick and Boleam becomes a victim as well. The Streakers take over Amagorta. When the news that Rhodan is alive starts spreading, Iridora, who is now sick as well, is sent on March 24th 490 to kill the newcomers with an attack from the Streakers on the planet Fat Tuesday. The caravan from the Hanse that Homer G. Adams sent to the Paura black hole on Rhodan's recommendation is destroyed by Mantivo and his companions. Eleiher and three other Streakers destroy the cosmic bazaars Rostock and Dantzig.

Senedor, one of the few healthy Amarenas left, helps the Cantaros to make contact with the Galactics in order to explain to them what is really going on. They suggest to isolate the Milky Way in order to prevent the Streakers from attacking the neighboring galaxies. However, the representative of the delegation is Boleam, who has successfully been able to hide his sickness. However, Pucky recognizes him as a Streaker. Senedor asks the Cantaros to carry on the isolation of the Milky Way without the agreement of the Galactics.

Using Amarena technology, the Cantaros build the force field but are promised by the Amarenas that the wall will come down if no new Streaker is spotted in the next ten years, which turns out to be a lie.

While the Galactics are trying to locate Rhodan in the pyramid, Ayshupon manages to track down and kill Ermancluq, rescuing Perry Rhodan. He takes the Terrans with him in his spaceship, the Cueggel, and heads out of the black hole. As they emerge, they realize that only two days have gone by in the normal universe.

Daarshol assigns the physician Pripoch to first heal the Terran and then to start questioning him, however, none of them know about the mini modules that the Terran had implanted in his blood stream and which allow him to defeat most of the drugs that he receives. Foch manages to stay lucid and decides to take this opportunity to find out more about the Supreme Command, the Cantato's mysterious leaders, and how they are being given directions by the Masters of the Paths.

The Supreme Command tells Daarshol that a Master of the Paths called Simedon Myrrho is being dispatched to Nirva to supervise Foch's interrogation. In order to gain some credibility, Foch pretends to give in to the questioning and he gives up the coordinates of a world that belongs to the resistance. He knows that the station on this planet is of very little importance and only hosts robots. Then Foch escapes his captors by reprogramming the android caring for him.

Simedo Myrrho materializes on Nirva and meets with Daarshol. The Master of the Paths is a humanoid and he tells the Cantaro that the Supreme Command has been impressed with his results so far, and as a reward, they are promoting him to the rank of Strategist, which makes him a member of the Supreme Command. Myrrho asks Daarshol to hand the prisoner to him and then, he vanishes in his spaceship. Shortly thereafter, Foch lets himself be recaptured.

Myrrho and Daarshol transport Foch to Schotschi, the third planet of the sun Chrukodh. Four hundred members of the one thousand members of the Supreme Command gather to listen to what Foch has to say under questioning. Foch reveals the location of more worlds of the resistance. Shortly after the interrogation, two explosions cause chaos on the Supreme Command base.

The investigation that follows doesn't reveal much on the cause of the explosions, except that Foch wasn't killed and that he's nowhere to be found. Simedo Myrrho makes the case to the Supreme Command that they should attack the planets disclosed by Foch as soon as possible.

Thou is rescued by the hermit historian Dorta Marta, who tells her more about the past of the Siganese and Donan Cruish's role.

Donan Cruish was born in 452, when a Cantaro spaceship appeared in the Siga system and started manipulating the Glador star. In the decades that follow, the Siganese start getting even smaller, reaching a maximum size of 11cm. Their lifetime is also decreased from 900 years down to 250 years. In 499, Cruish witnesses a genetically modified Siganese landing on their planet. The clone is 30cm tall and has received the mission to capture sixty Siganese.

In 594, A rebel called Gordy Flash then overthrows the Siganese government with a group called the Gladorists. Cruish barely avoids being captured. He starts building a resistance force as the word spreads in the Milky Way that Perry Rhodan is dead. In 607, Aras install laboratories in the south pole and they start capturing Gladorists, who are used for genetic experiments. The Arra lab is eventually destroyed in 793, Cruish flees and joins the Rams. In 902, he comes back to Siga and is elected at the head of the government. In 1001, the Aras start the construction of a new laboratory in the south pole.

A Cantaro spaceship lands and, after dispatching several fleets of probes, starts attacking the Siganese population. When the fight starts, Thou and Marta make contact with the 300 survivors and they hide in a subterranean base. Then they start looking for Cruish. The haluta and the Box-17411 land on Helios on July 17th. Tolot hopes he can decipher the SHF impulses and with Ambush's help, to be able to create an emitter to counter the Cantaro emissions. Reginald Bull heads to the Glador system to help the Siganese but he's kept away by Cantaro spaceships surrounding the system.

Clare Thou manages to find Cruish and they learn that the Cantaro Strategise Drenshoor is expected in the Ara laboratory. Using the former body of the Cantaro Claarence that they have turned into a new Paladin, several Siganese led by Cruish confront Drenshoor and try to capture it, but the attempt fails. As the operation to penetrate through the Chronopulse wall gets underway, Homer G. Adams remembers how the Cantaros started building the wall in 492 and finished it in 495, a few years after the Streakers destroyed the three cosmic bazars. So they woudn't fall in Cantaros' hands, Adams had the leftovers destroyed in 497, shortly before he created the resistance movement.

In March 1146, four fleets attack the Cantaros spaceforts simultaneously in order to create an opening in the Chronopulse wall. It's actually only a diversion to keep the Cantaros away from the Perseus black hole, where the Terran fleet will enter the Milky Way with the Central Protoplasm.

When Perry Rhodan returns on Helios, he is contacted by Ayshupon who tells him he's ready to pick him up on the Cueggel and head out to where Mono's cell sample is located. Concerned, Atlan follows his friend but finds the Gazelle emtpy and he realizes that the cell sample is gone as well.

After the destruction of the space forts Choktash and Shomrach, Daarshol is asked to review the defense of the remaining space forts.

Dorian Waiken, a Master of the Paths that looks like a Terran, is dispatched on the Humanidrome where he learns that 200 Nakks are missing. Daarshol, who accompanied him, realizes that the Master of the Paths seem to try very hard to care for the Nakks.

Daarshol becomes convinced that one of the nine Masters of the Paths, also referred to as Wise Men, is a traitor and he starts digging around. Helped with the historian Cemaach, he learns that the Wise Man Endehar Roff has been removed from the records of the Humanidrome. Cemaach tells Daarshol that the blueprints of the Humanidrome were created hundred of years ago by someone called Simenon Myhen, a name that sounds very similar to Simedon Myrrho, another Master of the Paths.

Daarshol starts wondering if the Cantaros are not being ruled by orders coming directly from the Solar System. Shortly afterwards, Cemaach receives the death impulse. A hologram from Ager Catomen appears and orders Daarshol to supervies the production of the clones. When the news that the Terran fleet has managed to penetrate inside the Milky Way reaches the Supreme Command, all the members are summoned back to Schotschi to react to the situation.

Pursuing his investigations, Daarshol becomes convinced that the Wise Man Farlons Stretter is actually Monos and that he infiltrated the Master of Paths in order to take control and exact his revenge against Rhodan.

Daarshol transmits his findings to the Master of the Paths and is soon summoned on the Titan fortress, where he expects to be promoted to a Wise Man himself. Actually, he receives the Death Impulse.

Worried about the upcoming meeting on Palkaru, Atlan sends Tekener and a team on a former UNO base where an old weapon is hidden. It's a very powerful virus based bomb that reacts to the proximity of 5D vibrations.

On May 27th, Rhodan departs with the Odin to the Ioka system. A few days later, Rhodan learns that the Nakk Narraga, who was in charge of the device that was supposed to destroy the entire Sol system, has deserted the Masters of the Paths. At 11am, Rhodan lands in a city called Kamoor where he is met by Ager Catomen, protected by an infrangible force field.

Monos/Ager Catomen explains that he needs to break Rhodan's power because of all the harm that he brought to him and his father, whom Catomen refuses to identify. He tells Rhodan that he will call off the destruction of the Sol system in exchange for Eirene and Gesil. During the tense discussion, Rhodan learns that Monos doesn't seem to know anything about the thefts of the cell activators, and he finally admits to Rhodan his real identity: Pedrass Foch.

Foch explains to Rhodan that he is the only Master of the Paths, that there were never eight of them: they were all himself under various disguises. Rhodan then lets him know about the Narraga's desertion, and when Monos realizes that he lost his leverage, he reaches out for an unidentified device. When Atlan, who's been observing the exchange all along, sees Monos' gestures, he triggers the weapon that he had installed in Rhodan's shuttle. The moon brain awakens
Ernst Vlcek

On the Odin, Atlan explains to Rhodan, who's just waking up from his paralysis, that he and the Vario 500 paralyzed Rhodan just before he left for Palkaru. The Vario used a Rhodan mask to impersonate him and went to meet Monos. They both died during the explosion.

A fleet of Halutians and Posbis are sent to recover the 20,000 Cantaros spaceships drifting in space. Then they are all scheduled to have their Ortonators removed, which should take two years during which the Central Protoplasm will keep emitting the pulses necessary to keep them alive. The rest of the Halutians depart for Haluta with the intent to restore their destroyed planet.

Rhodan and his crew head for the Sol system but they can't get in touch with Nathan. The three Anorees take care of the Cantaros while Atlan and Eirene land on the Moon in order to investigate what's wrong with Nathan. Rhonda and Bull land on Titan to explore Monos' former base. Using his privileged access, Atlan makes contact with Nathan and learns that the giant computer has been fed incorrect information for centuries by Monos. He learns more on how Monos came to power:

In 460, while the war against the Streakers is still raging, the construction of a second syntronic computer on Titan begins. The goal is to transfer all the information from Nathan into it and to eventually phase out the lunar computer. In November 469, Nathan is deactivated and Monos takes the place of several spokespersons of the Hanse, using different masks. He asks for Homer G. Adams to step down and be replaced with Galbraith Deighton. After the diplomatic convention on Olymp failed in April 490, Monos presses Deighton to establish new agreements with the Cantaros.

In 491, the war minister informs the public that the Milky Way is about to be isolated by a force field, Monos decides to use the Cantaro plans for his own goals. He uses the disappearance of Deighton's cell activator to gain full control on the administrator. The construction of the two Chronopulse walls is decided during negotiations with the Cantaros where only Mono, under eight different identities, participates, who will soon become the Masters of the Paths.

Monos creates the control field that permeates the Milky Way and gives him control of all the Cantaros within, but since they are unaware of who Monos really is, they continue to follow his orders. In 500, Monos has full control on the galaxy, the Cantaros and of the new syntronic computer on Titan. In 580, the Simusense Network is activated and enslaves the entire population of the Earth. Nathan is connected to the Simusense Network, thereby making the computer think the Milky Way is the only place with life within a Negasphere of 50 million light years, which was created by the Dorifer shock.

Despite his efforts, Atlan can't identify Mono's father, nor does he know about the whereabouts of the missing cell activators that belonged to Galbraith Deighton, Jen Salik, Geoffrey Abel Waringer, Irmina Kotschistowa and Jennifer Thyron, including the one that Gesil was keeping for Eirene. Rhodan learns that Daarshol had made a connection between Mono's cell sample and the samples that he had extracted from his prisoner, Pedrass Foch. The ambitious Cantaro tried to leverage his finding, thinking that Monos was Farlon Stretter, to become a Master of the Paths. Since he didn't know that Foch was actually all eight Masters of the Paths, he made the mistake to talk to Wello Banir/Monos about his suspicions, and after letting him get his hopes up, Monos simply executed him with the death pulse.

Atlan finally breaks through to Nathan and manages to establish a connection to Titan. The knowledge transfer from Titan to Nathan begins, and the moon computer starts catching up on all the events that were hidden from it during the past seven centuries. Thanks to her increasing affinity with the Nakks, Eirene convinces the Nakk Cleymur to deactivate the radio network.

On June 20th, Rhodan has Nathan broadcast through the Milky Way the message "The Milky Way is free, Monos is dead, the Masters of the Paths are gone".
