1000 - Der Terraner
The Terran
William Voltz

1 - The Arrival

Carfesch, an emissary of Tyrik, a Cosmocrat, arrives on Eden II, the planet of It. He has two cell activators with him and he must give them to It. The Immortal greets him and tells Carfesch that now, he will stay with Him forever.

2 - The Search

Charruta and Berritz have been patrolling the Universe for several decades, trying to find one of the chosen ones for the cell activator. They arrive in a region of space where two continuums are overlapping. A fight is raging around the third planet. Cylindrical spaceships coming out of the continuum crack are fighting against spherical spaceships. The detector Charruta and Berritz have on board reveals that the bearer is on this planet. His name is Atlan.

It will take another 10,000 years before the second bearer is found.

3 - The Search - part 2

Jynker is the commandant of the Korkoor-Aar. Many years ago, his spaceship had an accident that caused most of it to become radioactive. Jynker is the only crew member left, all the other ones are either dead or have mutated and are now trying to kill him.

The detector goes off and Jynker must reach the far end of the spaceship in order to lead it to the planet where the potential bearer has been found. He barely makes it and the ship crashes.

4 - The boy

Young Perry, six years old, is fishing with his uncle. He tells him about the dreams he regularly has about space travels and unified civilizations. As thunder begins to sound, Perry heads back to his home. When his uncle turns around to watch him, Perry has disappeared.

5 - The Window to the Cosmos

Perry materializes in front of It and Carfesch. It tells Rhodan about a Window to the Cosmos. When asked where this Window is, It says that it lies within him, that he will open it when the right time has come. On ITsrequest, Perry closes his eyes in order to get a glimpse of the window. He then sees himself within a beam of light, resonating in harmony with everything. Puzzled, Perry opens his eyes but It won't give any further explanations. Then Carfesch sends the kid back to his home, erasing all memory of this experience.

Shortly after, It teleports into a solar system made of forty-two planets. There, between the ninth and tenth planet, he deposits a clue for the forthcoming Galactic Riddle that Rhodan will have to solve on his quest for immortality.

6 - Highway to the cosmos

This chapter is a summary of the whole saga from episode 1 to 999. I won't sum it up here -- Cedric

7 - The Man

Back to the present, Carfesch materializes to Perry Rhodan and lets him know that It wants to see him. The Emissary from the Cosmocrats then vanishes. Rhodan has no clue as to how he could reach Eden II, nor where to find the timeless planet. It's Pucky who will give him the answer : after deeply scanning Rhodan, he tells him that now is the time to use Laire's eye. The eye of the robot will transport Rhodan to the appropriate place.

Rhodan retrieves the eye from the time safe where he had deposited it and, focuses on it. Rhodan vanishes in front of Pucky's eyes.

8 - In the Center of the Sphere of Influence

Rhodan materializes in an unfamiliar place filled with some kind of fog. He is greeted by a familiar laughter, although it does not belong to It. Theguest turns out to be Tako Kakuta, to Rhodan's great surprise. Kakuta explains that during the New Genesis Crisis, he and seven other mutants melted with the collective conscience of It, and that it is now where he is. Rhodan asks if he's going to have to melt with It too, but Kakuta says no. Then the two men teleport to meet with It.

The Immortal being tells Rhodan about the Cosmic Hanse, an intergalactic trade society that the Humanity must create. The six Spore Ships will be positioned at strategic places and used as markets while the fleet of the Orbiters will strengthen the Terran army. There are a lot of perils awaiting Rhodan in this adventure, and he will have to resort to Laire's eye in order to give the illusion that he can be in several places at the same time. Asked about specific details about this trading community, It will not make any further comment.

However, Rhodan feels that It has a vested interest in mentioning this to him and he eventually convinces It to explain himself. The Immortal says that what is going to happen with the Cosmic Hanse will have direct consequences on a fight He is currently having with an entity called Seth-Apophis. The name sounds familiar to Rhodan but he cannot put his finger on it.

9 - The Secret of the Matter Sink

Seth-Apophis is a very powerful super-intelligence and it is able to enlist people without them being aware at all who they are working for. Therefore, It has a very hard time fighting back and he needs Rhodan's help. The Cosmocrats are on It side and It needs a neutral zone to take place between His Sphere of Influence and Seth-Apophis'.

It tells Rhodan that in order to understand what the Cosmocrats are, the human race needs to become a super-intelligence itself. It describes the process of evolution as an onion, the outer layer being the most evolved. When a race progresses on the evolution scale, it gets further away from the center of the onion. Space travel allowed the human race to move forward one level. Then the fight against the Hetos of the Seven made them progress another layer. The Cosmic Hanse should allow humans to reach another degree in the evolution. The Hetos failed because they became more concerned with power than evolution.

The human race might become a super-intelligence one day, but they can't do that on their own and they will have to federate other intelligences first. When It gave Rhodan a cell-activator, He granted humanity a period of twenty-thousand years. Now it is clear to Rhodan what he is supposed to achieve in this period : Humanity must become a super-intelligence.

Aware that Rhodan has had a shock with all these revelations, It allows him to take a break. Rhodan comes back into his quarters and talks to Carfesch. The emissary from the Cosmocrats tells Rhodan he'd like to work with him, on Earth. Before Carfesch can give more details on his motivations, It calls Rhodan again.

Some unexpected events force It to shorten Rhodan's stay on Eden II. It seems that Seth-Apophis is resuming his attacks on the Sphere of Influence of the Immortal. Whenever a super-intelligence collapses, a Matter Sink is created. Rhodan remembers going into a Matter Sink in Erranternohre. There, he had felt the presence of an entity who called itself Jarmithara, a former super-intelligence.

When a super-intelligence evolves to the next degree, it becomes a Matter Source. Rhodan remembers meeting an entity called Gourdel when he and Atlan were in the Matter Source. Finally, when a Matter Source evolves, it turns into a Cosmocrat.

Rhodan makes the connection with the Knights of the Abyss, an order created by the Cosmocrats. Their goal is to insure the creation and the stabilization of as many Matter Sinks and Sources as possible. They represent the polarization of the universe and if one of them outgrows the other, the universe will no longer be able to receive new energies and will eventually collapse.

Rhodan is then sent back to his quarters where Carfesch informs him that he will join him and will live on the Earth in order to assist him in his forthcoming undertakings. Using Laire's Eye, the two men teleport back on Earth.

On his arrival, Rhodan decides that Humanity is entering a new era. On the year 3588, the Gregorian calendar ceases to be and the new date is now 1 NGE, for New Galactic Era.

They are split in two clans, the hunters and ship dwellers, who are led by someone called Claude St Vain and who tries to maintain the belief that they live on a spaceship and not a planet.

Jorg Breiskoll, a fourteen-year old teenager with a red fur, meets with a hermit, a strange person who is not human and has claws instead of hands. The hermit warns them that the tribe is soon going to be attacked by firce animals called chircools. During the attack, Djin, one of Jorg's friends, is wounded. Briskool takes him to the hermit in the hope that the old man could cure his friend. On his way, he sees a spaceship land, which he initially mistakes for the Sol.

The white ship that lands on Chircool is manned with Kranes, creatures with heads that are a mix of a lion and a wolf. They capture many Betschidians and inject them small insects called Spoodies. Some Betschdians hide and when they try to extract a Spoodie from one of the prisoners, the victim starts behaving erratically and enters a transe where he says that inhabitants of Chircool once came from a planet called the Earth and that they should seek it.

Douc Langur, who is no one less than the Hermit, makes contact with the Kranes, who tell him their spaceship, the Arsalom, belongs to the fleet of the Duke of Krandhor. They serve a leader called the Oracle of Krandhor and their mission is to take control of all planets within their realm. The Spoodies are symbiotes that increase the intelligence of their carrier and die after seven years.

The Arsalom also needs soldiers on board and Douc Langur, Faddon and Scoutie are accepted in the crew. The white ship then takes off.

1007 - Die Kosmische Hanse
The Cosmic Hanse
William Voltz

424 years have gone by since Perry Rhodan returned from his quest for the Cosmic Fortresses. The year is 424 of the New Galactic Calendar and the Cosmic Hanse is a powerful entity spread over the Milky Way and various neighboring galaxies. Its hidden agenda, the fight against Seth Apophis, is only known of a few selected people, among which thirty-four agents who meet regularly. The six former Spore Ships of the Mighty Ones have been renamed and are scattered in various strategic positions where they act as trade places. Perry Rhodan uses Laire's Eye to travel between the various points.

Agents that serve Seth Apophis are hard to track because they are not aware of their role until activated and Rhodan's organization faces numerous challenges while trying to track them. On Mardi Gras, one of the main bases of the Cosmic Hanse, the computer systems collapse and Rhodan suspects another attack from Seth Apophis.

One of the stations of the Hanse detects a modification in the background noise of the universe, which is no longer 3 absolute degrees. The phenomenon seems to be limited to a region of space where an unknown spaceship is discovered. Rhodan heads there with a small fleet but soon discovers that a psycho-field protects the mysterious object. Everyone getting near the object feels the urge to turn around. The scientists determine that someone with a low morality should be able to penetrate the field.

Not long ago, Carfesch, who poses as a peaceful merchant, was robbed. The culprit was soon arrested and examined since such criminal behavior is now very rare in the civilizations. The robber's name is Robert Aerts. Rhodan asks him to penetrate inside the object.

Inside, Aerts find an unconscious body. The mysterious being is brought back on a Terran spaceship and wakes up. His name is Quiupu and he has lost most of his memory. He remembers that he was asked to reconstruct the Viral Empire, a task that is somehow connected to the Cosmocrats. Quiupu also remembers the name Vishna and he asks to be given research facilities in order to resume his work on germs.

Rhodan decides to investigate the recent events on Mardi Gras and he asks Aerts to accompany him, although he doesn't understand why he made this request. The doctors who examined Aerts concluded that he is not fundamentally evil but that something recently altered his behavior.

The two men leave for Mardi Gras.

An unknown spaceship arrives in the Milky Way and when asked to identify itself, the pilot is nobody else than Jen Salik, the Knight of the Abyss who helped Rhodan during the Orbiter crisis. Salik meets with Perry Rhodan and explains that he was the one who stole Corello's cell activator. He justifies his act by saying he had to go into the galaxy Norgan Tur in order to officially receive the title of Knight of the Abyss. In order to do that, he went to the planet Khrat where the ceremony takes places in the Kedschan cathedral.

On the Earth, Carfesch tells Alask Saedelaere that Quiupu's declarations revived a few memories. He remembers that in a distant past, the Cosmocrats asked the Viral Empire to answer the three Ultimate Questions. The first two are "Where does the Endless Armada begin and where does it end?" and "Who created the Law and what does it do?". Carfesch can't remember the last question exactly but he knows it has something to do with the "Frost Ruby". Carfesch explains that Quiupu is probably trying to rebuild the Viral Empire in order to answer the Ultimate Questions.

Alaska forwards the information to Rhodan while he is talking with Jen Salik. The mention of the Ultimate Questions reminds Salik of something he saw in the Kedschan Cathedral. The Cathedral has a vault containing artifacts from a race called the Porleyters, who were the predecessors of the Knights of the Abyss. The knowledge about the items in the vault has been lost but Salik read a document about the Endless Armada and the Frost Ruby in there.

Alaska suggests Rhodan to send the Base to Norgan Tur so that when the current problems in the Milky Way with Seth Apophis are solved, he can teleport there directly with the Eye of Laire, since the Base is part of the Cosmic Hanse. Rhodan accepts.

At the same moment, Quiupu is found missing and various reports reach Rhodan from a planet called Arxisto and also other places throughout the Cosmic Hanse. It seems like Seth Apophis is launching another attack against It.

A monster is discovered in the vicinity of Terrania but it is eventually defeated. Quiupu tells Rhodan that the monster is the result of a missed experiment but that he must absolutely be allowed to continue. Rhodan refuses but he changes his mind when he receives a result from Nathan, who analyzed the problem and suggested that the strange alien should be allowed to carry on with his experiments.

In the Milky Way, five Time Points have been located, one of them near the planet Arxisto. The Y-shaped structue seems to be sending random objects and creaturs from a time evaluated at six hundred thousand years. However, the Terran scientists estimate that Seth Apophis is still experimenting with this technology.

A first attempt at trying to destroy the Time Point on Arxisto shows that they are protected by a powerful shield. Rhodan creates a bridge made of ten Tsunami ships, each of them shifted two seconds in the future. With a small team, he enters the bridge, which provokes various time anomalies with everyone. Rhodan finds himself transported back in the early days of the Third Force, on Ferrol, and also when he was nine years old, when he met It for the first time. Finally, the group reaches the other side and approaches the Time Point.

They set bombs on the structure but as they are about to leave, they realize that the shuttle, and soon themselves, start sinking inside the Time Point. Inside, the Terrans are confronted with the various objects and creatures that are about to be hurled outside the Time Point and they eventually land on Arxisto, where they discover their bombs, which have been deactivated during the transfer.

A Terran spaceship discovers their presence on Arxisto and picks them up.

In the year 2 of the New Galactic Calendar, Payne Hamiller had a new positronic computer installed inside the Basis, which he called the Hamiller Tube. One year later, Hamiller died in a transmitter accident. Papers left by the scientist indicate that the Hamiller Tube will activate itself automatically at some time in the future.

In the coming year, ths revolutionary ideas invented by Hamiller were applied to create the Metagrav Propulsion, which involves creating an artificial black hole ahead of the spaceship, which is then protected by a shield called the Grigoroff shield.

In the year 424, the Basis is getting ready to fly toward the galaxy Norgan Tur and the crew, commanded by Waylon Javier, makes a test flight within the Milky Way. Norgan Tur is located eighty million light years away and the trip will take three months.

On the Earth, Demeter, Roi Danton's wife, tells her husband that she needs to take part in the flight to Norgan Tur or she will start aging. Puzzled, Danton asks his father the permission and obtains it. Shortly thereafter, Demeter disappears. Pucky and Ras Tschubai find her inside a cave in a coma inside a coffin, not unlike the one she was originally found in in Crete, several centuries ago. Her body is brought on the Basis.

The Basis starts its test flight and suddenly, the Hamiller Tube activates. It takes control of the spaceship and affirms working for the good of mankind. A new flight is programmed and the Basis emerges in a binary system where it is soon attacked by a fleet of over two hundred spaceships commanded by Blues who seem to have seceded from the main race, theoretically allied of the Terrans. The Basis tries to escape but the spaceships are too powerful and the giant spaceship threatens to crash on the planet. Desperate, Waylon Javier decides to separate the main section of the base.

Suddenly, all the conditions come back to normal and the Hamiller Tube explains to Javier that the Basis is still orbiting the Earth. Everything that just happened was an illusion created by the giant computer, which had wrapped the Basis in its Grigoroff shield in order not to be interrupted by the Terrans.

On December 22nd, the Basis starts its long journey to Norgan Tur.

Rhodan realizes that Tifflor has fallen under the influence of Seth Apophis and has him isolated. Reginald Bull is kidnapped and reappears a few days later with no recollection of what happened. Half a ton of protoplasm coming from the World of a Hundred Suns is stolen.

Nathan tells Rhodan that someone erased all the information gathered about Quiupu, the Viral Empire and something that he calls the Genetic War, and which happened in year 5 of the new calendar. Only Tifflor knew about this information, which Nathan is now ready to disclose to Rhodan.

In year 5 of the new galactic calendar, the Arra Karts Troluhn discovered an asteroid approaching the Milky Way coming apparently from M-19. Inside, the Arra finds cultures of viruses and a powerful laboratory, which he starts using in an attempt to find out more. He gets infected by a deadly virus called the Cobalt virus. The Arra leaves the asteroid with a culture of the virus and accidently infects the planets Etrus and Siga. The virus mutates and influences the development of the flora and the fauna on both planets, which soon start suspecting each other of sabotage.

Tifflor and a few Sigans manage to end the conflict and an antidote to the cobalt virus is developed on the medical planet Tahun.

The location in the positronic computer that used to contain this information is now infected as well, leading Rhodan to suspect that the owners of the asteroid are also responsible for the recent onslaught of attacks on the Earth. They discover signs of a civilization that was apparently devastated in a distant past by an infection. The bodies they find show that the inhabitants were a mix of humanoids and felines. Seth Apophis tells the Darghetians about the Terrans, describing them as criminals.

Pushing their investigation further, they discover a Porleyter station and inside, two crab-looking creatures covered by a hard chitinous shell. They understand that the lifeless bodies are designed to host consciousnesses. Using the devices of the station, they transfer their consciousness inside the crab bodies and resume their research.

Rhodan realizes that Laire's Eye is no longer working, and the increasing health problems suffered by all the cell activators no longer leave any doubt: all these devices are Porleyter devices and they no longer work inside M3. Rhodan decides to head back toward the rest of the fleet in the Omicron sector, outside M3. During the flight, the engines and radios explode.

The two crabs then come back to life and Rhodan realizes that they are androids. Turned into a wreck, the Dan Picot crashes on the only planet of a red sun.

Pucky realizes that if he takes of his cell activator, his health returns to normal, but he can't stay without the activator for too long or his body will deperish. Pucky explores the undegrounds of the planet where more Porleyter installations are found, including seven lifeless crabs. He seals their location, afraid that they might sabotage the Terran installations like their two compatriots did on the Dan Picot.

Defense installations suddenly emerge from the ground and destroy the Dan Picot completely. Fortunately, the shuttles are still working and the Terrans are able to reach Omicron with them.

The Supervirus

On Lokvorth the cosmic wonder child Quiupu works further on the partial reconstruction of the Viral Empire. Sarga Ehkesh and the other 120 Terran scientists still feel redundant, so they go their own ways partially, Demos Yoorn and the crew of the LUZFRIG have more or less absolute boredom. But Jakobs Ellmer and Willy Parnatzel choose to follow their own mission, i.e. the search for the missing person Srimavo.

Quiupu mentioned that so far he has created ten million superviruses, which are momentarily in a growth phase as a plasma ball five meters across. Surprisingly it speaks of a new danger for the experiment and makes firm demands for the support of four ships from Terra. An appropriate plea is sent over the radio to the Sol system.

Ehkesh never developed a wound and trauma over the death of her father. In the meantime the woman stands to lose her sanity soon which is noticeable to no one however.

On Terra Reginald Bull speaks with Galbraith Deighton, the security head of the Cosmic Hanse, and asks him to fly with four ships to Lokvorth. They start on 20 June with the star cruisers TOSER BAN, REGNAL ORTON, NEVIS LATAN and JINGUISEM, under the command of Vlora Montana. When they reach the Scarfaaru system after two days, the highest uncertainty phase prevails.

The cosmic wonder kid speaks to the plasma ball of a danger becoming ever more acute and actually deforms. At the same time Void Srimavo dips and Quiupu explained that the danger would go away. Something seems to diffuse from the plasma ball then, which looks like rain drops. At that moment Deighton, with the four cruisers appears, and the plasma ball as well as the lost drops are saved and on instruction from Quiupus are brought into a stationary orbit, where the ships form a makeshift station.

Srimavo is together again with Ellmer and Parnatzel. IT avowed to undertake nothing against the superviruses for they would be just as important as for Quiupu. However their motivation is not from Quiupu.

Now the problem becomes obvious to Ehkesh. In its illusion it flees into the jungle, where it is naturally in mortal danger. Several search groups are sent out. One group briefly determines there are still superviruses in the research station. Before they can be saved, 24 men and women, under it Adelaie, are struck by it. The superviruses settle under the scalp to feel more balanced. In addition their intellectual capacity rises.

In the orbit the situation stabilizes, which is accompanied by the renewed disappearance of Srimavos. Ehkesh is found a little later, dead. It's son Kirt Dorell Ehkesh becomes new director/conductor of the station.

On 27 June, Deighton starts with the four cruisers back to Terra. They carry the 24 humans, who carry the Supervirus under their scalps, where they are to remain under observation.

The crew of the destroyed DAN PICOT take over the star cruiser TRAGER, whose crew was redistributed to the other ships of the mixed fleet. The cruiser breaks open again on 28 June after M-3, where the EM Alpha system with the planet EM, is approached again. There, a base station is created, by tunneling into the rock monolith and to the ammonia lake. Subsequently, the scientists observe two unexplainable phenomena around Geoffry Abel Waringer again.

Perry Rhodan, who assumes that, on all planets with such phenomena subplanetary stations of the Porleyter are, makes itself accordingly on the search. Meanwhile the commanders of ship's boat Nikki Frickel, Narktor and Wido Helfrich are occupied with the EM-sponges.

Mh-Kleinenführer is an intelligent roll sponge. He observes distrustfully the activities of the strangers. It is particularly concerned for the inviolability of the good one (the rock) and the large one (the lake), which are debased by the strangers. On the other hand Mh-Kleinenführer asks itself whether the strangers know at all what it and the large one's devine natures are. For their defiance, he prepares to attack the artificial embossments with two worm-like extensions.

On 30 June there comes a surprise attack on the TRAGER by a Terran three-man hunter. Gucky prevents the worst however and determines that the crew of the hunter came from the the wreck of the DAN PICOT, which lies on the planet of the two android crabs. But after the crash of the hunter they are either dead or unconscious.

The scientists at the rock and at the lake detect in each case a source of consciousness, but their result reads further, the rock is a rock and the lake a lake, who do not fit however on the planets. But Frickel and his two male colleagues and friends have more success, i.e. a mental contact to Mh-Kleinenführer. They want the roll sponge or the EM-amoeba to be convinced, that they intended to commit no sacrilege and the shortly after the approaching attack is broken off.

Rhodan, Carfesch and Jen Salik discover a subplanetary station with four android crab bodies in suspended animation. Afterwards, the two Knights of the Abyss and the former Cosmocrat become united to solve the whole mystery of the globular cluster around the Porleyter and sources of mental impulses. One day later, on the 3rd of July, the TRAGER starts back to Omikron-15 CV, where they want to recover the activator carriers from the ZA-syndrome. Afterwards they can go to the Impuls system.

They realize that the tree's gluons are exceptionally stronger than normal. Seth Apophis then orders them to destroy the tree but they resist.

When the Terrans land on Impulse II, the Darghetians realize they have been duped by Seth Apophis and they go back in the Porleyter station in order to return to their original worm-like bodies. They are captured by the Terrans who, although they can sense they are more friendly toward them, still have the possibility to destroy installations on board the ship. The Darghetians inspect the atomic structure of the crystals and discover that consciousnesses of Porleyters are trapped inside. The Darghetians manage to free a Porleyter, who then transfers his consciousness inside a crab body.

The Porleyter's name is Clynvanth-Oso-Megh and he recognizes that Rhodan and Salik are Knights of the Abyss. He tells them his story.

In a distant past...

After they anchored the Frost Ruby, the Porleyters expected to get an opportunity to reach another level of evolution and become a super-intelligence, but they quickly realized that it is not going to happen. The Cosmocrats show them their new home, a system made of five planets in M3 called New Moragan-Pordh.

They transfered their consciousness in androide bodies but they also used the crystals found on the planet in a desperate attempt to gain new abilities. Unfortunately, they all became prisoners of the crystals.

Clynvanth-Oso-Megh estimates that only 10% of the seventy thousand Porleyters are still alive. He also tells Rhodan that more information on the Frost Ruby can be found on the New Moragan-Pordh but he refuses to give him the coordinates.

1073 - Das rotierende Nichts
The Spinning Void

The sawpanische scientist Loudershirk discovers coincidentally, a certain nerve gas which frees him of Seth-Apophis' influence. He repeats the procedure with seven animals of the same species and they flee from the arrival station XERPHON into the rubble field, where their rocker ship must be still parked.

For Icho Tolot five eventless weeks passed. Bruke Tosen vegetates further from himself and the right Glove goes occasionally its own way. The Haluter studied the bird-like Gerjoks, which can grow up to over two meters tall in comparison to the Sawpanen and Phygos, as well as the amphibious Jauks, which measure a maximum of 1.50 meters. Now he receives the order to look for Gerjok Topue and seven robots that fled the Sawpanen. Loudershirk is the most important, because he is a specialist regarding the Slow Matter, which is needed to break the spinning void and thus loosen the anchor holding them.

The Sawpanen determines that their ship, 2.50 meters in diameter, is occupied by an instinct-afflicted bird, which does not have anything in common with the Gerjoks. It is a Berserker and due to the sounds it makes, is called Traah. They are to use all available the means to drive Traah out without killing it.

Tolot's group reaches the rocker ship after three days. There Traah has already killed four Sawpanen and it now comes to duel with the Haluter. With the ship unable to fly, the fight finally shifts into the rubble field. After some time Traah is finally driven off and the fight is over.

With a flight platform Tolot, Topue and the four remaining Sawpanen make their way back after XERPHON. But the platform is defective and it goes off course. On 28 July they reach another station, directly next to the spinning void. It carries the name YERPHON and of the Jauk Prol is commander. He behaves quite erratically and seems not interested in the fact that the station will fall into the void. Before Tolot discovers the reason for its existence, the ultimate "cock" Traah appears, as the Haluter classified it. But Traah is not alone; he is accompanied by the five meter high Auerspor. It is a hybrid of Jauk, Sawpane, Gerjok as well as Phygo and the local station crew worship it fanatically. Auerspor, actually such a thing like an ultimate creature, ensures that the crew doesn't fall into the void. Tolot and the other newcomers do not consider the Auerspor and the creatures around Prol and concentrate on the mystical goal in the void.

The Glove leaves the Haluter and builds from the pieces of the station a robotic "hen" for Traah. With it the cock can be lured away, to fall like the fake hen into the spinning void. The fanatical Auerspor supporters are shocked to see the possible fate of the Traahs, the ultimate creatures, and withdraw.

On 3 August the Glove with aides returns to the XERPHON and YERPHON is given up. She falls soon after into the void. On 8 August Tolot returns with Tosen, whose condition did not improve.

The Base receives a garbled message from Tengrei Lethos, who tells them that the Earth is in danger and that they must come and pick him up and then head back toward the Milky Way.

Javier manages to get the Base out of the cloud while the infected crewmembers are let go aboard a shuttle, which disappears inside the cloud. The Base then heads for Khrat.

The Base arrives on Khrat but Letos denies having sent the message asking them to come and pick him up. Cosino gets out of control and attacks the Base by manipulating several members, including Javier and Demeter. Lethos explains that Cosino and Voire used to be opposites: Voire gathered all the positive sides of the Porleyters and Cosino was the opposite. Since Cosino broke loose, Lethos realizes that Voire must have been destroyed.

The Terrans manage to isolate Cosino and precipitate him into a sun. Lethos then asks for the immediate departure of the Base towart the Milky Way, saying that now that Cosino is destroyed, Rhodan needs the "Ring of the Cosmocrats".

1090 - Der Kardec-Kreis
The Kardec Circle
Kurt Mahr

Atlan prepares for his return, with the knowledge that the Porleytern the Knight status is to be cancelled for Perry Rhodan and Jen Salik, if the Kardec sign does not emerge again. The Arkonide has to hand the sign over at the correct instant, before the Porleyter can carry out their public punishment. He must avoid the beings in their corporeal bodies pushing the punishment through nevertheless, in order to free the two Knights. In addition Atlan concocted himself a convincing history, as he goes to the Circle. He still has has ten hours to go.

In the HQ-Hanse Rhodan, Salik, Reginald Bull and Julian Tifflor go out in the meantime with Atlan and the Kardec sign Geidnerd seized. They assume the Arkonide is still an agent of Seth Apophis' and while around him in the meantime, require unusual precautions. For this reason Bull has the Bambuti Ngaju in the HQ-Hanse. The Afro Terraner is a Witch Doctor and still lives according to the old traditions of his tribe. Seven hours to go.

Quiupu wants to outwit Gesil, who barricaded himself in the SOL. The cosmic Wonder Kid knows that the Spoodies consist of superviruses in 8192 Viral complexes, which are again composed of several trillion viruses, or, as he says, Infinitesimal Machines. Secretly he offers all the remaining Spoodies, which were removed from the Solanans, to the Sphinx. In addition, he wants to come on board the SOL. The Spoodies took over the virus researcher's mind long ago and as Gesil consents to the trade, it happens. The Spoodies attack SENECA and release the Inpotronik from the living Spoodies. Now Gesil and the cosmic Wonder Kid can arrange the destruction of all Spoodies. Still four hours to go.

Lafsater Koro Soth tells to the two Knights of the Abyss, that they will lose their Knight status in public in a Kardec Circle of 24 Porleytern. That is one hour before expiration of the ultimatum.

Surprised, Atlan again faces the Akonen Aghym of Whort, who wants to deliver him to the Porleyter. But Ngaju intervenes and grants the Arkonide the time to finish his mission. One more hour.

On the free area to the HQ-Hanse the judgement is to be executed over the two knights. It is transferred not only in the Sol system but the entire galaxy. At the crucial moment Atlan appears, explains themselves and hands the Kardec Circle over to Lafsater. The Porleyter in charge of the punishment is obviously disappointed.

1091 - Sperrgebiet Hyperraum
Forbidden Hyperspace
H.G. Ewers

When they rematerialize, Kitsaiman and his group discover a network of thousands of transmitters spanning over the whole Milky Way. After visiting several planets, they return to the Earth and report to Rhodan.

Through the resistance movement, Rhodan has a brief interview with the two Darghetians, whose health is deteriorating. In the meantime, scientists are busy studying the glove that he found on Khrat.

The Porleyters are requesting a fleet of two hundred thousand spaceships in order to launch a preemptive strike against a galaxy ruled by Seth Apophis. They blackmail the Terran organization by activating a "hyperspace destroyer", a device that makes it impossible for spaceships to use hyperspace in an area of twenty five thousand light years. Hundreds of spaceships suddenly become stranded.

1092 - Aktion Transmitternetz
Action Transmitter Net
H.G. Ewers

With the Blackout in hyperspace caused by the Porleytern, an unparalleled co-operation begins between the peoples of the Milky Way and the two Magellanic Clouds. That which is achieved in the days starting from 17 December borders on a miracle and many actions and events will surely be registered in public archives.

The heavy cruiser INAUGURATION, under Sponsera Kaboff, is some hundred LY from the Hellax north system in the KMW. The ship is bringing cosmobiotics to Jefroma, where an epidemic disease rages. Owing to the employment of a transition ship, which can fly with sublight, they can still bring help to the inhabitants.

Altogether there are approximately two million spaceships of cruiser size in the galactic region. With outbreak of the Blackouts, 1.4 million units are stuck in the universe. Of them 120,000 ships sent distress calls; only a sixth however, in extreme emergency. As for transition ships, scarcely 900 ships are available, mostly the well-known scrap-iron crates of the Parias. Lafsater Koro Soth and its Porleyter ensure that the Parias do not become over courageous and too demanding.

In order to get the transmitter net to work effectively, 90 million individuals are assigned. The Tiger Gang has the task to instruct using the Net. After five days, four central junctions crystallize. There is Olymp, where Emperor Anson Argyris carries the responsibility, Akon under Heviath of Lurben, Gatas under Schügüly Efzzügyi and Asporc, where Ronald Tekener breaks open, in order to support the Asporcos. The total co-ordination is incumbent upon NATHAN on Luna with Galbraith Deighton in the line.

Gesil is still searching for Quiupu and Clifton Callamon announces from Tahun, where it will go better for the two Dargheten.

In the galactic center, a Terran collecting tank of the LFT is in trouble. The SEAWOLF under Jefra Laaser collects there Nugas and gets support of Gucky and Ras Tschubai, while Perry Rhodan strives to reach a stranded hospital ship of the Aras.

Despite all difficulties and employments the Unsterblichen celebrates Christmas on board the SOL on 24 December. The Blackout should have ended on this day, but it does not happen. In this time of reflection, Rhodan and Carfesch discuss sparkling wines, Eric Weidenburn and IT. The LFT and the Hanse must be concerned with it soon, particularly since Weidenburn's release will annoy the Porleytern.

December 31 ends the second week of chaos and NATHAN remains silent thoughout the duration of the Blackouts. The Porleyter, which was very cooperative at the beginning, who turns out in the meantime to have it under control again, Julian Tifllor holds on despite everything and on January 1st his traditional New Year's speech.

On 5 January, several Posbi fragment ships announce from deep space that the Blackout faded away there. Lafsater visits Rhodan and confirms it. He announces subsequently, that the entire transmitter net will be dissolved, if space travel is functioning once more. The fleet plans concerning the preventive strike against Seth Apophis are likewise taken up again. The new starting date becomes fixed on February 15 February. Two days later the Tiger Gang admits that the net should be considered destroyed.

In November 321, an amnesic woman called Eartha Weidenburn gave birth to a son, Eric. She gives him a blue crystal that she remembers she received as a gift for her future son. Eric Weidenburn shows a strong interest for space exploration in general and Carfesch in particular, whom he finds fascinating. One day, he is taken to an unknown place where a strange shadow tells him he has been assigned a mission of cosmic importance: he is the human liaison to the Endless Armada.

Weidenburn gathers a cult of followers and claims that space travel is pointless, and that the only thing that matters is locating a certain point in space that will allow humans to move to a next step in evolution called Stac. Weidenburn's first follower, Dunka Rabanez, takes the command of the study center Stac. The first affirmation claimed by his group, "Isolation is safety" reveals that each race must find its own Stac. The second one, "Do you know where the spaceships of the Hanse are flying to?" is meant to lead to Weidenburn's father.

The End of a Porleyter
Ernst Vlcek

As the Base is approaching the Milky Way, it falls under the influence of the hyperspace destroyed and breaks down. While the crew is busy fixing the hyperspace drive, they meet with a shuttle of Weidenburn's followers who think they have located the Stac.

The Base resumes its course and when it announces itself to Terrania, Rhodan receives the order from Lafsater-Koro-Soth to direct it to Vega so the Porleyters can inspect it before it reaches the Solar system.

Two Porleyters are sent on board the base and they meet Tengri Lethos, who introduces himself as an emissary of the Cosmocrats. As they are about to acknowledge his authority, they are attacked by robots programmed by the Base personnel and immediately think they have been betrayed. They attack Tengri Lethos but one of the Karde Shield malfunctions and one of the two Porleyters is killed. Tengri Lethos seizes his Kardec Shield and fights the other Porleyter, who is now trying to avenge his companion.

When Lafsater-Koro-Soth learns about the death of his compatriot, he orders all the Porleyters to meet on the Moon. Inside a crater, all 2009 Porleyters activate their Kardec Shield, which grows into a huge infrangible shield. They ask Rhodan and Jen Salik to meet them.

Lafsater-Koro-Soth apologizes to Rhodan and tells him that the Porleyter will no longer try to take control of the Terrans. They also withdraw their ultimatum to create a fleet made of all combined Terran spaceships in order to go fight Seth Apophis' vassals. However, the expedition is maintained and all the Terra leaders, mutants and activator carriers will take part in it. If the Terrans refuse, the Porleyters will destroy Nathan.

The Stone Messenger
Kurt Mahr

From Tolot's report, Rhodan understands that the Porleyters are in charge of keeping the Frost Ruby spinning by providing it energy while Seth Apophis is trying to slow it down by turning its spinning energy in matter called Slow Matter. In the past two million years, the Frost Ruby wandered about and caused several super novas, including one in the native galaxy of the Hathors.

Sawpans and Gerjoks open fire on the Base, trying to chase the Terrans from this area of space. Despite the Terran technological superiority, Rhodan backs off and sends several shuttles in a recon mission. One of them, led by Tedr Kosmas, discovers an asteroid that seems to be foreign to this region of space and baptizes it "Stone Messenger".

Rhodan starts a clean up operation around the Frost Ruby, destroying systematically all the Slow Matter, and then orders the return toward the Milky Way, as the Sawpans try to catch up with the Base. The Stone Messenger is found to possess a certain radiation that is similar to the one from M 82, reminding Tolot that Bruke Athosien once told him about a certain radiation that all creatures under the influence of Seth Apophis possess.

On the Moon, the Porleyters wake up and fly off, surrounder by their Kardec Aura. They set orbit around the Earth and their aura disrupts the Ear's magnetic field, causing various incidents. As the Base arrives in the Milky Way, the Porleyter Aura leaves orbit and heads for Terrania.

The Aura lands near Terrania, destroying its surroundings. Inside, the Porleyters are going through a lot of mental turmoil and most of them want to commit suicide, which they see as the only honorable way of putting an end to what they perceive as a failure. Only Lafsatre-Koro-Soth and a few other Porleyters disagree and want a new era to start for the Porleyters, dedicated to serving the Cosmocrats.

During an exploration around the Aura, Atlan is brought inside by the suicidary Porleyters and injured. The Aura is flickering increasingly fast, showing that it will soon be blowing up. Terrania is evacuated as Perry Rhodan realizes that the Arkonide disappeared. He decides to intervene and approaches the Aura.

As he gets closer to the energy field, the Ring of the Cosmocrats starts glowing and an entrance appears. Rhodan penetrates inside the Aura and addresses the Porleyters. When they see the Ring, they surrender to his orders and deactivate their Kardec shields. The Aura disappears and the Porleyters accept to return to Neu Morgan Pordh, where they will settle and withdraw from any cosmic roles from now on.

Several weeks later, things are slowly coming back to normal on the Earth when Rhodan receives a message from the President, the spaceship he had left near the Frost Ruby for observation. The commander of the President states that an incredible number of spaceships has suddenly appeared in the area.
